Being is Knowing Without a "knower". Seeing is Being Seeing without
any fixation of conceptual seer or objects seen. This is both Knowing and Not-Knowing. Impossible to grasp, This Is IT. Awareness
of Being this is not being this! No one has rediscovered that there is no seeker and nothing to seek. You ARE ALREADY THIS
- Being-One-Peace. This is living in Joy - the Natural Eternal IS-ness. But these are just concepts. NOT TRUE, NOT FALSE.
One Essence - appearing as What IS
Beware of “gurus” who tell you “"Beware the
guru who allows you to do as you please." The authentic message is NOT “do as you please”. The message is there
is no you to do or not do anything! The message that there is a you to choose to practice or seek or not reinforces a lie
of identity and is another dogmatic spiritual trap. There is NO you yet investigation may happen and the false center drop
away. No-Doer is.
The message that there is a you to choose to “do as you please”
OR “obey some guru’s list of practices or behaviors to attain spiritual enlightenment” just reinforces the
lie of identity and is a trap; make no mistake about this. While there is NO “one” to look into the false, perhaps
asking the brain to answer “what IS this ‘me’, that can happen and the false self-centered belief in “you”
can deconstruct. This is the paradox such false “teachings” that presuppose an entity called you cannot comprehend!
It happens by itself. EVERYTHING appears to happen by itself. Full stop.
This pointer is best shared in the livingness arising here and now by a good pal, John Greven:
“Do I Exist?Buddha is purported to have said,
‘Events happen, deeds are done, but there is no individual doer thereof.’ Francis Crick - Nobel Prize recipient
in medicine for deciphering the DNA code said, ‘You, your joys, sorrows, memories, ambitions, your sense of identity,
free will and love are no more then behaviors of a vast assembly of nerve cells.’ Any thought is just a movement of
energy - it is just mental noise.. The thought that there is a you or that there is no person - is just mental noise. The
thought that self-realization has or has not occurred - is mental noise. Anything that appears in the manifested reality -
whether it appears as a thought, mind, body, other, no-one, – anything, nothing - in the final understanding, just appears
in a non-conceptual awareness. What the One source is - cannot be perceived or conceived simply because there is no other
to perceive the One. Yet, there is an undeniable presence that the “I” thought refers to. Find what the mind calls
“I.” Be relentless until the Source is clear. Everything conceivable and perceivable is appearance - in the presence/awareness
- that belongs to no one. That, I am.”
THAT, I AM. THAT, Thou Art.
MORE: "Pause all thought and look in direct experience. What is here and now, and what are you?
How far are you from non-conceptual presence-awareness, and where is the presumed person, with his or her need for paths,
practices and purifications? Before granting the need for such things, one must first establish the presence of the defective
person. If there is no person, then who are we speaking about?” ~ John Wheeler
“To put it differently: Awakening is a paradox as it reveals that there is no one to awaken
and 'no-thing' that could be called awakening. Awakening -like a self consuming fire- cancels itself out in the realization
that there is no awakening and no one to awaken while, at the same time, it may be seen that 'Awakeness' is already and always
fully present. There is only This-Oneness and this Omnipresent One cannot reach 'awakening' as it IS
already everywhere. It cannot really lose or find anything either, as it is everything. When there is only This-One, appearing
as apparent diversity, then who or what could exist apart from this, get closer to this, or avoid THIS?” ~ Leo Hartong
Finally, John Greven “nails it down”:
You don’t Exist – Confused?
If the “I” is just an illusion, with no independent existence, then what can you
do towards self-realization? Some “teachers” says there is nothing you can do. If you are a seeker - that is frustrating
and just does not seem right. There certainly seems to be a “me” doing things. Others say, to investigate
the “I.” Ask the question, “Who am I?” As always, the problem is trying to understand these seemingly
conflicting pointers in the mind. What is this non-existent “I” supposed to do? Nothing? Even that is something.
These obviously appear to be two very different approaches. But, neither is intended to be the
answer. They are, like everything else, just pointers. Taken literally, it is a hopeless situation. The “teachers”
who would say, there is nothing you can do will pass the salt if asked. Seemingly, someone did something.
Ask someone what day it is and the mind responds. In the same way, ask someone to inquire, “Who
am I?” and the mind responds. The question is whether or not “someone” responded – or - is it all
apart of the natural functioning?
Certainly it seems like someone is doing the thinking, passing the salt, and asking "Who am
I?", but under investigation that idea is seen to be false. The realization is that there has never been “anyone”
thinking thoughts or doing things. Thoughts, like everything else, come and go according to the influences upon the brain.
Just as a drop of water moves around in the river without an independent nature, so thoughts arise and subside without anyone
choosing or controlling the activity.
The concept that there is nothing you can do to bring the search to an end is true. Yet, doing
is happening all the time isn’t it? The body is hungry and eating happens. The body is tired and sleep happens. The
search itself is happening. If it is true that there is no doer, then a lot is still getting done! So, there is no one telling
you to inquire, “Who am I?” There is no one to inquire, “Who am I?” Yet, the inquiry still happens.
When it is seen that the “I” that believes it is doing the inquiry is just a simple thought with a complex web
of concepts supporting it, then no one uncovered the false center of “me.”
The One Core “Message”
from Eternal Isness
Seeking "Wholeness, Completion, Happiness, Love or "Liberation" from
“Another”, whether that "revered other" be a "Guru, Guide, Lover, or Friend", is a perfect way to avoid Paradise. Paradise is THIS. Just as it Is and just as
it Isn’t. All seeking "out there" is a dream of a “me”, foolishly knocking on the door to Paradise, from inside Paradise. Paradise is only lost in
seeking it. This Loving Oneness Cannot Be Known. To “know” Oneness there would have to be a sense of separation
FROM Oneness. Who cannot see the fault in that logic?
"No one I ever met who understood this ever called themselves a teacher,
propagated spiritual concepts, had a "teaching", collected followers, held retreats, transmitted the "dharma" or whatever
the case might be. All that they could do was point out the ever-present fact of what you are here and now and send you along
with an encouragement to see it for yourself, and with the full assurance that you are already whole and complete as is."
~ John Wheeler
Same here.
What Is Eternal? Nothing is Forever.
ONLY No Thing is Forever......
What ARE You?
Not Two Not One?! What IS and what "seems to be"
are both here and not here, now and not now, Is and Is Not - together as One. The Sanskrit word-pointer “Advaita”
translates to NOT TWO. So
this Absolute-Reality is BOTH BEYOND and WITHIN all that IS and all that APPEARS. No separation exists anywhere
– yet the sense-feeling “I am me and not you” will persist until it doesn't. Nothing can be done to
end the sense of separation, simply because the "me" that wants to become one with all that is, is a fake. Yet that too
is The One seeming to be a "me". Therein is the Cosmic Joke.

Simply Self-Recognition
Condensed to Essence
Emaho! (It is Sacred!) It is the single (nature of) mind (Being, or ‘Big Mind’),
which encompasses all of Samsara (suffering)and Nirvana (Liberation). Even though
its inherent nature has existed from the very beginning, you have not recognized it; Even though its clarity and presence
has been uninterrupted, you have not yet encountered its face. Even though its arising has nowhere been obstructed, still
you have not comprehended it. Therefore, this direct pointing is for the purpose of bringing you to self-recognition.
Everything that is expounded is incomprehensible unless you understand intrinsic awareness.
“Seekers” being attached to personal ideas and interpretations, become fettered
by these attachments and so do not perceive the Clear Light. Obscured by attachments to subject and object, or obscured by
attachments to service or practice, there seems to occur a falling back into ignorance. Also some practitioners of self-enquiry
are fettered by attachments to Space and Awareness. And with respect to the real meaning of non-duality, since the ignorant
divide Space and Awareness into two, so there is falling into deviation. If these two do not become one without any duality,
one will certainly not see (rightly) the True Nature of this.
As for this sparkling awareness, which is sometimes called "Big Mind", even though one says
that it exists, it does not actually exist. On the other hand, as Source, it is the origin of the diversity of all the bliss
of Nirvana (Liberation) and all of the sorrow of Samsara (suffering.). This has been named diversely; yet some simply call
it by the elegantly simple name "ordinary awareness."
Thoughts “in the past” are clear and empty and leave no traces behind. Thoughts “in the future”
are fresh and unconditioned. And in the present moment, when Being remains in its own condition without constructing anything,
Awareness at this moment is quite ordinary. And when you look into yourselfnakedly
(without attaching to any discursive thoughts), there is only this pure observing. Seeing this there will be found a lucid
clarity without anyone being there who is the observer; only a naked manifest awareness is present.
This awareness is empty and immaculately pure, not being created by anything whatsoever. It is authentic and unadulterated,
without any duality of “clarity and emptiness”. It is not permanent and yet it is not created by anything. However,
it is not a mere nothingness or something annihilated because it is lucid and present. It does not exist as a single entity
because it is present and clear in terms of being many. On the other hand, it is not created as a multiplicity of things because
it is inseparable and of a single flavor. This inherent self-awareness does not derive from anything outside itself. This
is the real introduction to the actual condition of things.
Your own immediate self-awareness is just this (and nothing else), and that has an inherent self-clarity, which is entirely
un-fabricated. Your own mind is insubstantial like the empty sky. You should look at your own mind to see whether it is like
that or not. Being (awareness) without any view that decisively decides that it is empty, it is certain that self-originated
primal awareness has been clear (and luminous) from the very beginning, like the heart of the sun, which is itself self-originated.
It is certain that whatever appearances occur, all of them are self-manifested, like the images in a mirror being self-manifestations
that simply appear. You should look at your own mind to see whether it is like that or not. It is certain that all of the
diverse characteristics of things are liberated into their own condition, like clouds in the atmosphere that are self-originated
and self-liberated. You should look at your own mind to see whether it is like that or not.
And when you look inward at your own mind inside yourself, if there exists no projectionist who projects thoughts by
thinking them, then your own subtle mind will become lucidly clear without anything being projected. Since the Clear Light
of your own intrinsic awareness is empty, it is the Reality; and this is like the sun rising in a cloudless illuminated sky.
Even though this light cannot be said to possess a particular shape or form, nevertheless, it can be fully known. The meaning
of this, whether or not it is understood, is especially significant.
This self-originated Clear Light, which from the very beginning was in no way produced by something antecedent to it,
is the child of awareness, and yet it is itself without any parents—amazing! This self-originated primordial awareness
has not been created by anything—amazing! It does not experience birth nor does there exist a cause for its death—amazing!
Although it is evidently visible, yet there is no one there who sees it—amazing! Although it has wandered throughout
Samsara, it has come to no harm—amazing! Even though it has seen Buddhahood itself, it has not come to any benefit from
this—amazing! Even though it exists in everyone everywhere, yet it has gone unrecognized—amazing! Nonetheless
you hope to attain some other fruit than this elsewhere—amazing! Even though it exists within yourself (and nowhere
else), yet you seek for it elsewhere--amazing!
Your own awareness is inherently knowing, inherently clear, and luminously brilliant. When it arises, it is called"enlightened mind". Being without any activity of meditation, it transcends all objects
of knowledge. Being without any distraction, it is the luminous clarity of the Essence itself. Appearances, being empty in
themselves, become self-liberated; clarity and emptiness (being inseparable) are the Invincible Timeless Spaceless Reality.
When you look and observe, seeking the one who is looking and observing, since you search for this observer and do not
find one, at that time your view is exhausted and overthrown. Thus, even though it is the end of your view, this is the beginning
with respect to yourself. The view and the one who is viewing are not found to exist, anywhere.
Because of the unobstructed nature of the mind, there is a continuous arising of appearances. Like the waves and the
waters of the ocean, which are not two (different things), Whatever arises is liberated into the natural state of the mind.
However many different names are applied to it in this unceasing process of naming things, With respect to its real meaning,
the mind (of “an individual”) does not exist other than as one. And, moreover, this singularity is without any
foundation and devoid of any root. But, even though it is one, you cannot look for it in any particular direction. It cannot
be seen as an entity located somewhere, because it is not created or made by anything. Nor can it be seen as just being empty,
because there exists the transparent radiance of its own luminous clarity and awareness.
Immediate self-awareness is clear and present. Even though activities exist, there is no awareness of an agent who is
the actor. Even though they are without any inherent nature, experiences are actually experienced. If you practice in this
way, then everything will be liberated. This self-liberation through seeing with naked awareness is of such great profundity,
and, this being so; become intimately acquainted with self-awareness. Profoundly sealed!
(This text essence is by Padmasambhava, Paraphrased by Charles David Hayes, 6 January 2008)
“Awareness is ever awake and the seeming separate self who would need to awaken does
not exist. Awakening, enlightenment, liberation and so on ar imaginary concepts. You already are what you are seeking. End
of story”. – John Wheeler
The Simplicity Of This
Since you already ARE and you do KNOW that you ARE, you exist and are aware, you must understand
that this aware beingness is all that is pointed to as your true self. The identity of a thought "I" is a false concept and
directly looking for the actual existence of any separate entity reveals that all that there is is a thought that comes
and goes IN unchanging awareness. That is the simple truth of all this and seeing that ends any search because it is seen
directly here and now that being IS and you are THAT.
What You Are
Love is right there before the mind and gives light to all that appears, even the energy we label
"fear" and "terror". All that stuff is, is the false self-center or self-image, trying to keep you from seeing it as false.
That's how it apparently survives even thought it ain't real - by avoiding being looked head-on at...
(Scroll Down for More)
Do "You" Exist?
You Are NOT Who You "Know" You Are.
Then ... WHO Are You? WHAT IF ALL The wholeness, perfection, perfect
peace, and absolute unconditional love, all that which you are seeking in outer
things ..... is directly and immediately available right here now ... within - all around - and AS - your True Spacelike Timeless Unborn Self? WHO cannot see and recognize that? Who and what
does the mind-I thinking machine assume itself to be in reality?
What is that "me-myself-I"
MADE of? Does this "entity" have any actual substance apart from Awareness? Any independent power to write it's life script,
program itslef, make its life work? Is there really a "me" apart from This Totality, AKA "Everything"? LOOK Into This....
If there is a belief in "being
someone" - turn that back
to that Silence which is ever present within and all around. A simple means is to ask that assumed "me", WHO AM I?
What’s 'The Answer'?
Q:
When the question is asked, "who am I?" the answer is felt to be "the one who is listening to that question". Is that correct?
It seems that logically the answer should be "the one who is asking the question".
C: Absolutely NOT. When that question is "answered"
the inquiry is stopped. The deeper insight cannot come through the mind which is what answers.
That "answer" is a tail-chasing loop of ignorance!
THERE IS NO ANSWER. THAT IS “the answer”. When THAT is seen - by no-one - the search ends, usually in gales of
laughter! (More correspondence and pointers are here>>)
"The thought 'who am I?' will destroy all other thoughts,
and like the stick used for stirring the burning pyre, it will itself in the end get destroyed. Then, there will arise Self-realization.”
-
Sri Ramana Maharshi
What is REAL? –
The very sense of Being, that never changes; That which arises here and now as the absolute empty knowing of aware presence
which then gets translated in "language" (or "mind") as the knowing “I am.” Seeing into this directly,
no-one sees - ah! there is NO me - and yet - I AM.
Ponder: "See thatwhat you are is that undeniable
presence beyond any of the mind's concepts, even the concept of "I am". Before that notion of "me" appears, you are there
as the one to whom it appears".~
John Wheeler
"The
body appears in your mind, your mind is the content of your consciousness; you are the motionless witness of the river of
consciousness which changes eternally without changing you in any way. Your own changelessness is so obvious that you do not
notice it. The universe is in you and cannot be without you. The world exists in memory, memory comes into consciousness;
consciousness exists in awareness and awareness is the reflection of the light on the waters of existence". ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj ~

"When you look
into the mind all you find is a few thoughts, feeling and perceptions but no defective, limited person -- only the space of
pure knowing and being. That non-conceptual, ever-fresh presence of awareness was what was being pointed to, and now you know
you are THAT. That is the main point. All the suffering and seeking was only believing in a thought about someone who never
existed."
Beyond
'I Am', Beyond Reality, There Is Only One. You Are That.
"This
primary concept, ‘I-am-ness’, is dishonest, because it is still a concept
only. Finally one has to transcend that also and be in the ‘nirvikalpa’
state, which means the concept-free state. Then you have no concept at all, not even of ‘I am’. In that state
one does not know that one is. This state is known as ‘Parabrahman’: ‘Brahman’
transcended. ‘Brahman’ is manifest; ‘Parabrahman’ is beyond
that, prior to that; the Absolute". -SriNisargadattaMaharaj
The Natural State
Nothing To Get, No One To Get It
Illumination
Do you
exist? Paraphrasing the Tao: To know your True Nature, the Eternal Unchanging 'Always So', is to be illumined.
"How is this known? By looking". The urge
to challenge the assumed consensus reality comes from The One Beyond! This awareness of being (I exist, I am) happens in Timeless Spaceless Being. But do you
exist? Is there such a thing as a separate I that exists? We claim to KNOW "I exist". But do we really? Is that really TRUE? Where's your proof? Now look at this: What is always here where you are, prior to thoughts, feelings, sensations, prior to wakefulness? Awareness
IS. Notice this.
What Is Reality?
Perhaps the habit is to identify your self as the thought "I" - as in I Am. Notice
right now if the Presence behind the I thought has been overlooked. Break into the habit, being aware of That Presence as
your True Identity. This takes no time nor practice. It's just a natural seeing ... right here, right now. And that's the
end of seeking; the Natural, Eternal Stateless Being has been found to be never missing.
The appearing manifest multiplicity
- you and me and world - are in Reality, One Being, Unicity. There is only One. Paradoxically, Empty yet Full. An Aware, Alive Presence, This One never ends and never begins. All there is is This One.
This One cannot be found. This One has never been lost.
The One Presence - Awareness is transparent and of the nature of naked light or the empty
sky ... NOT an object that mind can perceive! You cannot objectify Awareness; it is like Space. It's EMPTY and meaningless.
This which is pointed to is That Inconceivable Isness which lovingly holds everything. That
cannot be an object "you" can conceive or perceive or grasp, any more than the apple can perceive or grasp the bowl.
A subtle idea of being I separated from other, asserts itself as a silent context, an unseen unknown matrix.
But it is only a thought arising in Presence! The lie is the assumption that "I am a separate entity, apart from the whole".
Look at it as a silent background assumption
of a core self-identity, even before time and being arises. Is it true? Look into this. Asking the mind "Do I exist"? may show that the automatic brain-machinery answer
is always yes. But is this 'yes' real and absolutely certain? Who says so? See that "I exist" is a self-reinforcing back-story,
an unthought thought, a sense-story of an I that claims to exist and proves its existence to itself by reasserting the concept
"I exist."
But do understand
that asserting the false over and over does NOT
make it true.
It's a self-reinforcing conceptual LOOP. A tautology! Get outside this loop! Drop all other questions, doubts, confusions. All are based on a core belief.
A belief that "I exist". DO I exist? Where's the proof?
That
“I AM” you BELIEVE is “YOU” is ONLY a thought.
It’s the mind’s
translation of the pure NON-conceptual Isness of Being One-Without-A-Second, Being-Awareness, into the “thought-form
of I.” And a thought “I”, or “I AM,” is NOT a separate, actual independent thing; it is an ephemeral,
temporary appearance that comes and goes in Unchanging Presence-Awareness. So, be willing to DROP all answers and abide as
NOT Knowing. Unknowing Presence-Awareness; Cluelessly Being This, as it is and as it ain’t. FULL STOP. Seeking an answer
IS the denial of this Presence, Being-Aliveness … you attempt to find Being, and that’s like a fish in the ocean
seeking the water: “Where O Where is my Water"?
“Knowledge and ignorance pertain only to the mind and are
in duality, but the Self is beyond them both. It is pure Light. There is no need for one Self to see another. There are no
two selves. What is not the Self is mere non-self and cannot see the Self. The Self has no sight or hearing; it lies beyond
them, all alone, as pure Consciousness.” ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi
And This: "How can you speak or
develop any concept unless the primary concept ‘I am’ is available? This primary concept begets further concepts,
that is all other concepts occur to it. However, whatever concept occurs to you, including the primary concept ‘I am’,
is not the eternal state". - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Earlier I
was sure of so many things, now I am sure of nothing. But I feel that I have lost nothing by not
knowing, because all my knowledge was false. My not knowing was in itself knowledge of the fact that all knowledge is ignorance, that `I do not know' is the only true statement the mind can make.
“O great sage”, the seeker implored, “Please tell me how I can know the Self
Of All? What is my true nature? I am suffering! O kindly sage, please free me from this suffering and despair”!
The Sage replied, “You cannot know the Self Of All. You ARE The Self Of All. You are dreaming
that you are a person who is suffering. That is all”.
“But great sage”, the seeker wailed, “That does me absolutely NO good and I
AM a person suffering, depressed, despairing! Why will you not help me”?
“Where is that one who needs ‘help’, dear One? What is that ‘one’
made of, dear One? If there was ‘one’ to help and one to ‘be helped’ this would be delighted to help.
But there can be neither found, here, in This that IS.”
“What poppycock”!, the seeker cried. What a cruel and heartless person you are"!
With deep compassion, the sage replied, “What is this ‘person’ you believe you
see? You merely project the false out of the false – the so called mind”.
The seeker sat stunned for a moment. There was a period of silence. Then, the “sage”
organism-appearance drew a deep breath, sighed, and then these sounds came from it: “There is no person here no person
there no person anywhere yet the person cannot see that. How could a cloud know it is a cloud? All the while The sky simply
IS and allows the cloud to appear and also appear to seek it's nature. What divine nonsense it is”. (The sage laughed
loudly, and then suddenly fell silent, as though asleep yet with eyes open.)
After a few moments the seeker said, “Then why are you here talking to persons if there
ARE no persons? What exactly is happening here?”, the seeker implored.
The sage replied, “Nothing is happening here. Nothing is happening now. And before here
and prior to now The Self IS. In This, there is NO seeker, NO ‘sage’, NO time, NO space, NO awareness, NO movement,
NOstillness, NO silence, NO sound, NO waking, NO deep sleep, NO dream, NO being,
NO not-being. YET, The One Self IS. Like Deep Sleep to the seeking mind, the One IS. Just That and nothing else. That is Eternally
Reality; Livingness Arising as THIS. This is what YOU ARE, and so that cannot be known by a ‘you’ … as in
Reality, There IS no ‘you’. This is all there is".
The sage’s eyes shone like mirrors lit by a light so bright the seeker was blinded for an
instant. Then he cried, “Now I am hopelessly confused”! The seeker wept and wailed for a time, then fell silent,
and sat staring at the sage like a deer in the headlights.
“Excellent”, the sage replied. “It has been said that the guards at the Gateless
Gate to Paradise are Paradox and Confusion. Here is a paradox: You are Paradise and so
no person called you can enter Paradise. Here is confusion: you seek yet there is no seeker. You want
a sage to free you from suffering yet there is no sage. There is no way into Paradise. There is no way out of Paradise”.
The seeker moaned, fell into a swoon, then began to laugh. He was still laughing half an hour
later when the sage went to lunch.
“As
you think yourself to be, so you think the world to be. If you imagine yourself as separate from the world, the world will
appear as separate from you and you will experience desire and fear. I do not see the world as separate from me and so there
is nothing for me to desire or fear”. ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Q-1: I have benefited a lot from your
video work. I have found the videos succinct, humorous and challenging. They are usually distinguished by a definite lack
of B.S. etc.
C. That’s how John Wheeler, ‘Sailor’
Bob Adasmon, John Greven, and Tony Parsons all handled this with me. It just works to “cut the crap” and get down
to the core issues at the root of suffering to end that unnecessary pain once and forever.
Q-2: I am interested in your work and
the pointers you have shed a light upon and so I will more than likely investigate your work further.
C. You are always welcome to visit
the website and write or call.
Q-3: I always watch your videos and
I like your sweet way to point to That which can not be pointed to.
C. Well put!
Q-3: I am the publisher of Sri Nisargadatta's
book "I Am That" here in Brazil. I just wanted to thank you and I wish you a quick health improvement for the body-mind
so you can carry on.
C. Thanks very much! I do have an excellent
doctor! It’s on the upswing again. But there is NO care here about how long this body may be around. Once this is seen
by no one, then the identification with the "I am the body” delusion snaps and there is only The Unborn. The greatest
gift is to “die before you die”.
SO happy to hear you are sharing Sri
Nisargadatta in Brazil! For this apparemt “seeker” perhaps the finest set of “book form”pointers arrived in the space of that false “me-seeker” via Sri Nisargadatta’s “Ultimate
Medicine”. That was the beginning of the end of an over thirty years search through paths, seminars, methods, gurus,
practices, and all manner of other spiritual bullshit! Reading those pointers, and then getting into it direct "one to one"
with John Wheeler while reading his books ... along with e-mail and phone consultations over a relatively
short period of time ... completely and blessedly ended all confusion and suffering here. So keep up the good work, my dear
friend.
Q-4: I’ve
enjoyed your videos very much Charlie, so much so I've ordered the book "Paradise Found" from Amazon.
Q-5: hi charles,
thank you again so much for the pointers. I have also been reading your book "Life After Death", where it becomes clear, that "no-one" awakes, or could ever awake ... because that one who wants to
awake simply does not exist.
C. EXACTLY! Great!
Q-5:Again,...thank
you so much for your inspiration and for pointing so lovingly, clearly and compassionate to "THAT"
C. "My" pleasure!
C. Thank you all very much. Your sincerity
and earnestness is clear and most welcome ... it is truly a pleasure when the Message resonates and suffering is first reduced,
and finally ended. Stay in touch through the website as spirit move you. And the book orders are much appreciated! Helps provide
luxuries like food and shelter and medicine!
Love ya all! Thanks for writing... stay in touch as Oneness moves you to.
Note: There are now well over 100 videos on YouTube which arose spontaneously over the
last year or so. Go HERE to peruse them. There is no fee, all is offered freely from I AM to I AM.
“If you identify yourself as the body, such an identity must
be let go of, sacrificed. Your real identity has no body and no thought. And that self, the spontaneous knowledge ‘
I am’ you are. Since the self is not the body, the self is neither male nor female. You must fulfill the vow that you
are not the body but solely the indwelling principle ‘I am’.” – Sri
Nisargadatta Maharaj
This is what must arise, the deep fundamental conviction that all
“I know” and all “I am” and all “I want” leads only to endless suffering.
This is why sages like Bankei said, “Die before you die”
and John Wheeler stresses the pointer “You Were Never Born” (a title of one of John’s books).
What is pointed out is that ALL wants lead to suffering and that
what you truly are is that timeless presence that is beyond wanting, devoid of a person with its wants. You are that Aware
Presence which is prior to language and prior to the next thought. See that right now!
What Sri Nisargadatta and others in that “lineage”
gave (and give) is NOT what the person wants, but the often bitter medicine that the person needs, that intidote to the poison
of false identity which reveals that the person simply does not exist!
To the assumed person-entity (some call this ‘”mind”
or “ego” this looks like dying! And so the false assumed persona mounts tremendous resistance to this message
and rails against any attempt to point out that what the person assumes is their self (I) is a phantom with absolutely NO
substance and that the real is beyond wants and wishes for something that will make IT happy.
No “spiritual carrots” are on offer here. This expression
will NOT give “you” what “you” want. What will be shared here, with no control and no agenda, is only
always exactly what is NEEDED, not what a false person “wants”.
What the false person REALLY needs is to be completely deconstructed.
And that can look like an huge threat … which to the assumed entity, it definitely will seem to be. But run away over
and over, avoid the direct pointing over and over, and there will be suffering and no authentic freedom, happiness or love.
If I thought you had a choice that might be sad. But if there is
no person and this is proved beyond doubt by your own investigation, then the whole thing is moot and freedom arises as the
knowing that all is well and no one was ever born.
If I thought I was an I and you were a you, “I” might
wish that for “you”.
Q: Why did the Buddha advocate the eightfold path as a means to liberation?
(goes on to list the whole 'path' thing! - deleted.)
C. First off - who is this entity that “wants to know?” What is this persona-mask ‘me’ that
assumes it is real, and wants to have answers, which are all useless, and that does not recognize that ALL “why”
questions are simply going to lead to more bullshit story? WHO wants yet another endless meaningless “tale told by an
idiot, filled with sound and fury, signifying … NOTHING!”?
Secondly, nobody really knows what that appearance of Life Itself some call “Buddha” REALLY uttered
and yet from direct seeing I tell you that beyond ANY doubt, the truth is a pathless land (as J. Krishnamurti put it- purportedly.)
Look: ALL paths lead AWAY from Paradise! Moreover, all "why" questions are coming out of an assumption that (a) there is an entity that
needs or wants to know, a "me", and (b) another entity called "Awake one i.e. Buddha" who had answers and talked to others
"not awake". There just ARE no such "persons" - it's all a bullcrap story!
Frankly I seriously doubt that the Buddha appearance ever did "teach" any such. The sense of it here is that since
there IS no person, no individual, no Buddha, no not-Buddha, no "awakened one" and no "unawakened one", that this story got
perpetrated in the ignorance of those minds that interpret and turn a spontaneous utterance of a fresh timeless burst of energy
arising as sounds into some holy bullshit.
Ponder this: If the Buddha really said THIS -- (which from here seems perhaps more likely that the exhortation to
follow some arduous “path”) -- “Actions happen, deeds are done, but there IS no ‘individual doer thereof”
-- then for whom would any ‘path’ have been advocated!? And BY whom?
Duh.
Let’s be clear! In this Timelessness, this ever-new Being-Awareness-Love, there IS no path and there IS no
such “attainment” as “liberation”. There is NO path, NO goal, NO seeker, NO Buddha - the old zen masters
said "If you meet the Buddha on the road kill him!" Thereby pointing to the FACT that there IS no "Buddha" -- and no
"you!"
There is NO Liberation ... OR, all there IS is Liberation i.e. Timeless Spaceless BEING appearing as everything!
... but the words only POINT and do not describe – THIS that You ARE is UTTERLY beyond description, beyond perception,
PRIOR to language, Empty yet Full Being – LIFE Itself, ALIVENESS. NOR do the words prescribe a path to "somewhere other
than here" that can be reached "somewhen other than now”. There just is NOTHING to get and NO-ONE to “get”
that!
You cannot get Here from Here! AND there IS no "person," no "you" - that is a false assumption that leads to endless
questions and seeking (and suffering!) so long as the assumption goes unchallenged!
The bottom line is there is nothing to get because there is no one to get this No Thing that IS – Timeless
Being, Nothing being Everything NOT TWO! It’s an already Done Deal! Seeking and paths are DENIAL of that! STOP NOW.
BE. There is ONLY This Being as it is! Full stop.
To be real and straight about it, that "path to liberation" is absolutely bullshit. As is pointed out in the
introduction of the book “Paradise Found”, if ANYTHING is assumed to be other than ignorant bullshit then the
perspective is simply one of utter ignorance. Ignoring your Emptiness you tell a bullshit story of a me and a Buddha and a
path. THAT is all a load of ignorant crap. Got it?
IF “you” still accept the mind’s lie that there IS a “you” person, then that you is
being a FAKE. ERASE that phony, that mental assumption of a separate “me,” the con man or woman - just ask that
believed believer “you” assume “you” are, "who asks this question?" WHO AM I? WHAT AM I? I AM. But
WHAT?
Give up ALL your other questions and stop believing these stories; dismantle that believer! Drop it all by refusing
to ask anyone else OR yourself any question other than WHAT AM I?" And tale no answer but I AM. What Am I? I Am. Let that
ERASE "you" once and for good!
The idea of paths and the idea of liberation are all just mental noises that are absolutely meaningless. What you
are is empty, naked, meaningless presence awareness …and even less than
THAT!
Q: Thanks Charlie.
Refreshingly direct as always. The mind never tires of asking what, how, why. Just like a two year old. There is a direct
seeing by no one of the ever present, ever shining presence of awareness. Unavoidable as you
say. I'm still reading through "Paradise Found" and enjoying it very much.
C. Good to hear. Now burn the book and dwell as what you already ARE – Conceptless empty-and-full Awareness,
Pure Aliveness utterly devoid of properties and utterly filled with deafening silence and endless beginningless movement.
To paraphrase (perhaps) the Buddha, from The Diamond Sutra … ALL appearances are utterly empty and false. But only ALL appearances
apparently appearing. If “one” sees all appearances as no appearances, then no one sees yet seeing IS.
The ultimate Paradox: There is no person yet there IS this I of Awareness. But that
is but another LIE passing for “truth” and this cannot be told or known. IT IS but NOT even THAT!
The Diamond Sutra is said to be so sharp so as to cut even a diamond … yet what
Diamond Cutter can cut the Diamond Cutter: The so called Buddha teaching is a
vast collection of pointers to utter negation … no Buddha no Bodhisattva no path, pointing to the vast no thing, formless
forming emptiness sounding deafening Silence and not that either! Welcome to the pointlessness of This.
Is there such a reality as I/other? Where is this reality? Only arising in as of on thoughts,
a paradigm or net of assumptions. But the net is full of holes! Try to hold the I and the other than I in the net of concepts,
this “body of assumptions” that takes time-space-me-other as reality, but a very iffy reality this is …
gone in deep sleep while Life Itself beats six billion human harts and countless trillions of blades of grass and grasshoppers,
tiny creatures being lived as Life Itself alive and thriving all without YOU!
What are you? No Thing? Less than No thing there is … what?
You as you are ....... not knowing.
Tell me, what is this? What is That which you do not know that you do not know?
What asks and answers?
Is that which asked and answered real?
Is a thought really what is real and timeless?
Where is I without other? Where is other without I?
What’s missing right NOW? Before you answer stop and see: all there is is NOW. (and not
even that for this ‘now’ is just a concept!)
What is happening right HERE? Is anything really happening now here? Here now? (Here is not HERE.
HERE is NOT a concept not a thing at all HERE IS NOW.)
A pub in the UK has a sign up above the bar: “Free Beer Tomorrow”.
How many free beers have been dispensed?
Whoever said there’s no tomorrow was making a damn fine point …..
Is a thought really what is real and timeless?
Where is I without other? Where is other without I?
(Audio - Listen and abide in Silence: This Is Now) ~ "To be, you must be nobody. To think yourself to be something, or somebody, is death and hell". ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj~
You Are This
Seeing the Infinite Self as it is ends seeking here and now ... You already ARE Aliveness,
living in freedom, the eternal state... Accepting a false belief in a separate "I-persona"
is the root cause of suffering, yet the I-am-me belief is not solid or substantial at all – it is a phantom –
merely a cloud-like appearance of energy bubbling up as a thought.
What's a "me"?
The idea of a "me" appears in what you actually are - Awareness,
empty, clear and meaningless. The reality is, your timeless presence prior to words and sensations is utterly free and untouched,
silently present as a perfect peace beyond description.
Seeking Wholeness, Completion, Happiness,
Love or "Liberation" from “Another”, whether that "revered other" be a "Guru, Guide, Lover, or Friend", is a perfect
way to avoid Paradise. Paradise is THIS, just as it IS and just as it ISN'T. All seeking "out there" is but a dream of a “me”,
foolishly knocking on the door to Paradise, from inside Paradise Paradise is only lost in seeking it.
This Loving Oneness Cannot Be Known... To “know” Oneness there would have to be a sense of separation FROM Oneness.
Who cannot see the
fault in that logic?
You are what you seek. That is all there is to this stuff!
Ponder: What IS a "me"? What is this
"me" made of?
“O great sage”, the seeker implored, “Please tell me how I can know the Self
Of All? What is my true nature? I am suffering! O kindly sage, please free me from this suffering and despair”! (Continued HERE, see 22 Aug post)
"See the "I" as what it is:
a conceptual phantom with no substance at all. In the collapse of that concept, all the conceptual suffering tied to it vanishes
also. ~ John Wheeler
"As seeming individuals, we use a word called love. When speaking
of the Love that is the One, the human conditional love is something different. The Love of the One, like the Peace, is absolute
and unassailable. It is a Love that is complete and present in a source that is timeless. The mind would draw the analogy
to a Love and Peace that have evolved into perfection over a timeless existence. Yet, the word perfection is too limiting.
"The
One knows itself as all pervading yet without location or space to fill. The One knows itself as absolute power – absolute
presence, yet nothing to effect. The
One – as the attempt above describes, is what you are. The One does not exist without what you are and you are not without
the One. One presence. One Consciousness. One awareness. There are no individuals within the One". - John Greven
Because, there IS no 'you' to BE liberated, in Reality. Seeking "Wholeness", Completion,
Happiness, Love or "Liberation" from “Another”, whether that "revered other" be a "Guru, Guide, Lover, or Friend",
is a perfect way to avoid Paradise. Paradise is THIS. Just as it Is and just as it Isn’t. All seeking "out there" is a dream of a “me”, foolishly
knocking on the door to Paradise, from inside Paradise. Paradise
is only lost in seeking it! Oneness Cannot Be "Taught". Nor can this Loving Oneness Be "Known". To “know” Oneness there
would have to be a sense of separation FROM Oneness. Who cannot see the fault in that logic?
All Paths Lead Away From Paradise
What if you REALLY ARE what you have been seeking inside these “conceptual structures”
– ideas only – of time, location and viewpoint? What is left to seek? Where is a seeker? The seeker is just a
thought of a me. Where IS that person who claims I think and I feel? Try to grasp a thought. Might as well try to put a pound
of space in a sieve.
Does a thought of I being me actually have any substance at all? And try to grasp it! Try
and grip onto any experience! Too late! Clouds pass. You Are The SKY of Awareness - no thing but That thou art. Be Still.
Be. Empty. By the time you show up as an apparent entity to seemingly have a go at grasping and hanging onto an experience
- or a thought - too late - long gone!
What will your next thought be? Until it appears do you know? Can you? If not ...
then who thinks?
Does the voice in your head claim that it's you thinking? Is that true? If so why do YOU
let thoughts happen that bring about emotional pain or suffering?
Only when your life is lost into Life Itself can it be said by nobody at all that "awakening
has happened". But that is just another unplanned thought ... and there will be no one to claim "i am awakened". (Such a claimant
would be just another unsought thought ...)
"Can you identify a single thing that is not an
object to the subject that you are? Is the you, that is attempting to do this, an object as well?" -John Greven
Objects, by definition, are temporary... temporal or time-bound ... apparently. Take
a deeper LOOK - what IS That which is NOT temporary, Not time-dependent
... That which has NO beginning or end, That
which does not change? The Eternal is NOT a thing, yet there is ISness. What is That Unchanging Isness? Is That Isness an
object appearing to the Timeless Spaceless empty Subject that You are?

Do I Exist?
Buddha is purported to have said, "Events happen, deeds are done, but there is no
individual doer thereof.”
Francis Crick - Nobel Prize recipient in medicine for deciphering the DNA code said,
“You, your joys, sorrows, memories, ambitions, your sense of identity, free will and love are no more then behaviors
of a vast assembly of nerve cells."
Any thought is just a movement of energy - it is just mental noise..
The thought that there is a you or that there is no person - is just mental noise.
The thought that self-realization has or has not occurred - is mental noise.
Anything that appears in the manifested reality - whether it appears as a thought,
mind, body, other, no-one, – anything, nothing - is, in the final understanding, just appearance in a non-conceptual
awareness.
What the One source is - cannot be perceived or conceived simply because there is
no other to perceive the One. Yet, there is an undeniable presence that the “I” thought refers to. Find what the
mind calls “I.” Be relentless until the Source is clear. Everything conceivable and perceivable is appearance
- in the presence/awareness - that belongs to no one. That, I am.
~
don’t Exist – Confused?
If the “I” is just an illusion, with no independent existence, then what
can you do towards self-realization? Some “teachers” says there is nothing you can do. If you are a seeker - that
is frustrating and just does not seem right. There certainly seems to be a “me” doing things. Others say,
to investigate the “I.” Ask the question, “Who am I?” As always, the problem is trying to understand
these seemingly conflicting pointers in the mind. What is this non-existent “I” supposed to do? Nothing? Even
that is something.
These obviously appear to be two very different approaches. But, neither is intended
to be the answer. They are, like everything else, just pointers. Taken literally, it is a hopeless situation. The “teachers”
who would say, there is nothing you can do will pass the salt if asked. Seemingly, someone did something.
Ask someone what day it is and the mind responds. In the same way, ask someone to
inquire, “Who am I?” and the mind responds. The question is whether or not “someone” responded –
or - is it all apart of the natural functioning?
Certainly it seems like someone is doing the thinking, passing the salt, and asking
"Who am I?", but under investigation that idea is seen to be false.
Yet, doing is happening all the time isn’t it? The body is hungry and eating happens. The body is tired and sleep happens.
The search itself is happening. If it is true that there is no doer, then a lot is still getting done! So, there is no one
telling you to inquire, “Who am I?” There is no one to inquire, “Who am I?” Yet, the inquiry still
happens. When it is seen that the “I” that believes it is doing the inquiry is just a simple thought with a complex
web of concepts supporting it, then no one uncovered the false center of “me.”

The Source, The One, God
A Humble Mind’s Interpretation
Words
can never capture that which is beyond all things, but here we go anyway.
The One knows itself as the only reality. This is unquestionable.
The peace, that is the One, is beyond anything that the mind can comprehend. It is
absolute. It is a peace born from timeless existence and sole presence that is truly at home with itself. It is a peace that
just one taste of would satisfy a human mind for a lifetime. It is a peace so profound that nothing can disrupt it - just
as nothing can touch space, nothing can touch this all-prevailing peace. It is vibrant stillness and screaming silence.
The source knows itself as timeless- without beginning and without end. This knowing
is absolute. There is absolute certainty in the existence of the One. No question can arise in the One, as all is clearly
known. Not a knowing of things, as the human mind collects, (although that is present moment to moment), but a knowing of
the single reality, that I Am. The Love and Peace of the One are the same –seemingly different yet in perfect harmony
and balance. Nothing moves, while everything is vibrant and seemingly alive.
As seeming individuals, we use a word called love. When speaking of the Love that
is the One, the human conditional love is something different. The Love of the One, like the Peace, is absolute and unassailable.
It is a Love that is complete and present in a source that is timeless. The mind would draw the analogy to a Love and Peace
that have evolved into perfection over a timeless existence. Yet, the word perfection is too limiting.
The One knows itself as all pervading yet without location or space to fill. The
One knows itself as absolute power – absolute presence, yet nothing to effect.
The One – as the attempt above describes, is what you are. The One does not
exist without what you are and you are not without the One. One presence. One Consciousness. One awareness. There are no individuals
within the One.

No Mind
In thinking about the mind, there is often a sense that the mind and brain are two
different things. The thought may be that the mind is somehow an ethereal private world that is cherished or is perhaps a
tormentor - while the brain is often ignored as having anything to do with the mind. As an example, a friend recently made
the statement, “I’m going to sell everything I own and move into my mind - since I live there anyway.” The
mind gives us a sense of place, whereas the brain just appears to be an idea in the mind.
We know of course that the brain is storing information and carrying on bodily functions.
But this is really more of a belief than a true knowing because we can’t see or feel the brain carrying out its functions.
There is no sensation of the brain sending a signal to blink the eye, no seeing of the brain storing or retrieving information
from memory, or even translating these words. If something is touched with a finger, there is contact with that something,
and it is known. But, trying to make contact with the brain seems impossible. Therefore, the idea of a mind receives the attention
– contact is possible with thoughts and feelings and they become the focus. The mind appears to be active – in
the head- while the brain appears to be silent. Perhaps the two different labels of brain and mind appear to mean something
different, but are, in actuality, referring to the same thing. Perhaps if we got square with the facts things would appear
differently.
Is there a mind separate from the brain? Is what we refer to as the mind just the
thinking process of the brain? Perhaps, if we dropped the label of mind and just saw the brain for what it is, a complex network
of cells that make up a limited, habitual, machine type organ, the mind would loose some of its seeming authority. An analogy
has been drawn from the computer function of “garbage in garbage out”. The brain is truly no different. In regards
to what we refer to as the mind, all the brain is doing is organizing information, combining information, and bringing ideas
and behaviors back out. The brain is a conditioned organ. It is nothing but a machine. The conditioning that it has received
was started millions of years ago and through a seeming series of events, is what it is, right now, down to the last cell,
memory, and thought.
There is no mind.

What is your next thought going to be?
It is a simple question, but the answer is profound. The answer carries with it ramifications
that will undo core beliefs about who you think you are. With just a little watching, you may discover that the answer to
the question is not known until the thought arises. If this is true, what does that mean for who you think you are?
Because the next thought is not and cannot be known until it is already present,
some questions may arise….
If I don’t know what the next thought is going to be, who comes up with it?
If I don’t know what the next thought is going to be, how can I know what choices
are going to be made?
If I don’t know what choices are going to be made, who does?
If I don’t know what choices are going to be made, am I making them at all?
If I didn’t make the choice, where did it come from?
Have I ever made a choice about anything?
If I have never made a choice, is there any responsibility?
~
Normal Space
Normal
space - what a miracle it is. Sitting between every cell – the space is. Floating between every blade of grass it is. Filling
the lungs of every creature, untouched by the simple flow of a breeze or massive
collision of suns – the space is.
The
planets, suns, and comets... Creation and thoughts - in all their forms dancing within
simple space – dependent on it - and yet, not touching it.
A
fitting analogy - but as beautiful as space could seem - the mind would get tired to
just looking at it. Why? Because it is not the content and the mind is designed for content.
Yet
- if you were the space ----- how easily the content could be enjoyed. Rather than fearing the content or that something
would be missing, coming, or going - the momentary appearances of content are
effortlessly allowed to be, seeing without condition or expectation.
You are not seeing the space - you are the space - the space
like - presence - awareness.

When the One called "other" says it far better than the One called "charlie" currently
can, that One humbly defers to this "other-One". Visit John at www.onenessjustthat.com and get the book "Oneness - The Destination You Never Left".
When asked which books I recommend, I say start with John's book, "Oneness" ... then read
mine if you like, just for fun.
If you want to keep the seeker of truth forever seeking and suffering, and thereby beholden
to you for "relief", and so keep him or her coming back to your seminars, programs, retreats and books - simply convince
her or him that they are responsible for who they are, what they do and what they have.
Take any position for or against ANYTHING – especially “responsibility" - and
you have killed off aliveness and become stuck solid in belief and believer. Those teachers that urge such positions on the
hapless seeker are quite simply on One Big Time Ego Trip!
All seminars, methods, practices, paths, guru trips, teachings of truth, and other paths
to somewhere that an assumed to be real person can quote reach quote someday are paths of imprisonment.
Make no mistake: this means ALL such paths – perhaps especially those that purport
to offer freedom, power, love, liberation through taking responsibility for making your life or the whole world (!) WORK and
“releasing people from suffering” – are ego trips. Why? Because there just IS NO PERSON who can choose or
exert will to be responsible and make life better. It’s the con game of false gurus, rampant nowadays. Here Now is a
wakeup call.
All such paths have one common goal: to keep you seeking, to keep you coming back again
and again with the carrot on a stick of ultimate knowledge, ultimate understanding, final liberation from suffering and so
on. All “someday” in some imaginary future which of course never comes -never.
It is just a wet dream! And those con men and women who are themselves conned will exhort
the seeker toward endless processing, seminaring, retreating, practicing – all based on a simply false assumption, reinforced
at every step and in every teaching: The assumption that you are a person, a separate entity, the claim (unverifiable!) that
YOU are the source, the “cause” of it all, therefore YOU are responsible – not just for your life, for who
you are and will be, and what you do and will do, and what you have and will have, but YOU are responsible for all of life
– the wars, the crimes, the child abusers, the rapists, the murderers – in short, YOU - the so-called entity - or
"person" - are “cause in the matter” of Life Itself. That is a recipe for endless suffering.
In other words, these false gurus assert YOU are God (and if that is the case, then YOU
have royally fucked up!)
Herein see the FACE OF EVIL.
What is evil? The burdening of this accusation of being responsible and thereby the accusation
of avoiding responsibility in various ways. When the seeker of truth is burdened by these concepts (and they are ONLY concepts
with NO basis in FACT) then the suffering, the despair, the depression, the absolute horror of being faced daily with the
absolute futility of all efforts to change, alter or correct what IS is simply stunning.
The point of any “teaching” ought to be to remove the seeker from all paths
and practices completely. Once and for good. ANY other agenda is simply the endless con of religions, methods, practices and
paths all designed to reinforce the false while steadfastly denying the complete absence of ANY volitional will or ability
to be responsible and make one’s life work - or (even more futile) make the world work!
So there is an invitation here from no one to no one.
This invitation is to absolutely reject ALL such notions of EITHER being responsible or
NOT being responsible.
Ponder what John Greven, author of “Oneness, The Destination You never Left”
and one of the “final teachers” of THIS organism called “charliehayes” offers, as a potent pointing
to what is actually so and actually NOT so:
"What is your next thought going to
be?
It is a simple question, but the answer is profound. The answer carries with it ramifications
that will undo core beliefs about who you think you are. With just a little watching, you may discover that the answer to
the question is not known until the thought arises. If this is true, what does that mean for who you think you are?
Because the next thought is not and
cannot be known until it is already present, some questions may arise….
If I don’t know what the next

If I don’t know what the next

If I don’t know what choices
are going to be made, who does?
If I don’t know what choices
are going to be made, am I making them at all?
If I didn’t make the choice,
where did it come from?
Have I ever made a choice about anything?
If I have never made a choice, is
there any responsibility?"
(Note that if you simply read the above, and believe OR disbelieve the pointer, you will
have utterly MISSED the pointer, are maintaining your convictions (thereby you are suffering a life sentence of having been
convicted and imprisoned till death with no possibility of parole!)And your
cherished beliefs in persona and responsibility and becoming and someday will remain intact – and you will continue
to suffer. But a potent question would be, WHO “chose” to ignore the pointer and maintain the positional stance
of a believer who cherishes his or her ego above freedom?)
John offers a few more gems:
“Can you identify a single
thing that is not an object to the subject that you are? Is the you, that is attempting to do this, an object as well?
Anything in front of the mirror
is still something in front of the mirror. Even if that something
is nothing.”
These pointers are NOT for the seeker
to grasp and believe as “truths”. These are about removing the seeker from all paths of becoming and someday completely
– here and now.
Be Free. Now. Ponder till there
is no person left to ponder:
“Buddha is purported to have said, "Events happen, deeds are done, but there is no
individual doer thereof.

Thank You, John Greven, for Nothing! There is Great Love and Gratitude here for the appearance
of 'John Greven'. (The book, "Oneness”, is highly recommended).
Look. Seeking "Wholeness", Completion, Happiness, Love or "Liberation" from “Another”,
whether that "revered other" be a "Guru, Guide, Lover, or Friend", is a perfect way to avoid Paradise. Paradise is THIS. Just as it Is and just as it Isn’t. All seeking "out there" is a dream of a “me”,
foolishly knocking on the door to Paradise, from inside Paradise.
Paradise is only lost in seeking it!
This Loving Oneness Cannot Be Known.
To “know” Oneness there would have to be a sense of separation FROM Oneness. Who cannot see the fault in that
logic?
Where IS a 'Me'
You – the Authentic You – Are that Awareness and nothing
else. Everything that appears, appears IN (or ON) this empty screen of Pure Awareness. You are That. Get that beyond doubt.
Even doubts arise in or on that Awareness. Understand – You Are That. Nothing but That.
"If you have understood
what you really are, is there any necessity for spiritual pursuits?" ~ Nisargadatta Maharaj
Where
is any “individual” reference point without language? Without resorting to at least one of these … language,
perception, belief, knowledge, assumption, concept, feeling, body senses, body itself, or emotion (all of which REQUIRE “language”
for their existence) then what is real? Without language is there anything at all? Without language where is a me or a world
or another?
Yet - without (or with) "language" - YOU ARE. Awareness IS.
As Sri Nisargadatta exhorts, "Do not refuse to be what you ARE;
and, do not pretend to be what you are NOT". You are NOT language; language arises IN You-As-Awareness.
Many have said, "Be as You Are". To
BE is a done deal ... you are. That is the Awareness of Being No Thing. Abide in Being.
I Am Not That.
You Are Not That.
All Of This Is Nothing But Not That.
That is all. Not That Not That.
This is Now and Never........
And Now is Not Never is Not That either!
"There is no person. it's all a concept; it's all an illusion".
- Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
It is impossible to grasp and hold love. Why? This timeless love
is Endless Being, appearing as what the mind (the ego-sense of being an individual) sees as either love or hate, either courage
or fear, either war or peace. This Infinite Love IS ALL OF THAT. There is NOTHING separate from Love.
What if the search really is over? What if you REALLY ARE what
you have been seeking inside these “conceptual structures” – ideas only – of time, location and viewpoint?
What is left to seek? Where is a seeker? The seeker
is just a thought of a me. Where IS that person who claims I think and I feel? Try to grasp a thought.
Does a thought of I being me actually have any substance at all?
And try to grasp an experience! Too late!
By the time you show up as an apparent entity to seemingly have
a go at grasping and hanging onto that experience - or thought - it is long gone!
Try and fail! In failure This Endless Love is seen. By no
one.
Who Is Seeking What? Here is a question for you: If you are seeking …. What are you seeking for? What is it that
you don’t have right now that you want to attain? Awakening? Enlightenment? Self-Realization? Liberation? What ARE these
things? Are they “things” at all?
What Is Reality?
Here is a question for you: If you are seeking …. What are you seeking
for? What is it that you don’t have right now that you want to attain? Awakening? Enlightenment? Self-Realization? Liberation?
What ARE these things? Are they “things” at all?
Perhaps the habit is to identify your self as the thought "I" - as in I Am. Notice
right now if the Presence behind the I thought has been overlooked. Break into the habit, being aware of That Presence as
your True Identity. This takes no time nor practice. It's just a natural seeing ... right here, right now. And that's the
end of seeking; the Natural, Eternal Stateless Being has been found to be never missing.
What Is
The appearing manifest multiplicity - you and me and world - are in Reality, One
Being, Unicity, and there IS nothing but That.... There is only One. This One is, paradoxically, an Empty yet Full Aware Presence that never ends and never begins. You ARE this Awareness,
Presence ... IN and AS which the Universe and all possibilities arise. All that IS appears and disappears in That. All there
is is This One.
LOOK
What
are you?
Something says “I AM.” What IS that? Something knows, “I AM.” What IS that? LOOK directly
at the thought “I”. What is that? What is the SOURCE of that thought? LOOK directly into the sense of being, being
alive, being awake. What IS that? What is the SOURCE of that? Do you know? WHAT knows? What is the SOURCE of knowing? Do you
know that you do NOT know? What is the SOURCE of that NOT knowing? What is the Source of SOURCE? What are you? Challenge the
thinker-mind, what ARE you? LOOK out at “the world.” ASK that world WHAT ARE YOU? What ARE You!? WHERE did you
come from? WHERE are you going?
Watch the mind answer. Ask that thinker-storyteller, WHAT ARE YOU? WHERE did you come form? WHERE are you going?
WHAT makes you happen? WHAT is the SOURCE of you? Are you REAL? WHAT says yes? What says NO? What ARE You!? WHERE did you
come from? WHERE are you going?
What IS the Source of IS? What IS ... “IS” ... ?
WHAT seeks answers? WHAT asks what seeks? NO
ANSWER will satisfy. ONLY that.
Demand the Truth from the mind! ASK it, WHAT ARE YOU?
WHAT answers? What is THE SOURCE of THAT?
I n S I L E N C E
ASK
Just keep looking for the separate person. Asking WHO AM I? - do not take any answer! Apart from a thought
or feeling, that comes and goes, is it there? What you REALLY are IS EMPTY - beyond description. All you as an entity
are is memory and imagination. Stay with this. Other than a natural sense of curiosity, asking that me who are you?, there
is really nothing needed. just be as you are. -EMPTY- Keep it simple. You ARE, and you KNOW you ARE. Look for the self ... the "me" ... and
you find nothing. Being IS no thing. That is all. Love!
What do you take yourself to be? What is it that you understand your self to be? Are you really separate from the Whole?
Are you a solid separated entity, real and permament, apart from others and life itself? If you believe that to be so, here
are some questions for that “you” which you “know yourself to be.”
Where did this thing you think you are come from? What is it made of? What makes it appear and know,
feel, believe and assert its independence from All That Is?
What does this "you" consist of? How and why did it get born? DID it get born? This "idea of “me”
... is it real? Solid? Does it actually do, think, feel, act?” Look at this.
Where is this “me” you are convinced is what you are? Exactly where? What is its home,
its location? Is it an "it" at all? Ponder. Ask yourself, do I exist? What is this that exists? What wakes that up in the morning? What puts
that to sleep at night?
1. YOU are Awareness, simply being. No one can say they do not exist.
That existence, the sense of "I" as in "I Am," is undeniable and inescapable. Try to NOT BE. Cannot be done. So the simple
pointer is, what you are is That Presence or Awareness that YOU ARE. Being. Just That! This True You ... BE-ING... is POINTED
TO in language with concepts like Impersonal Consciousness; Awareness, Being ... YOU are just THAT, prior to the mind's
translation into the thought I Am and I am this or that.
2. You are NOT an "individual." There are NO "individuals"
anywhere except in unreal stories. The idea of a separate person is a fiction, a mind-construction, a house of cards,
as the story tries to say, “I’m ME! (Unsuccessfully!) This idea of a "me" is ... on investigation ... seen to
be a false claim by the thinking machinery to it's own separate existence. This ever-changing idea of a person is simply unreal.
WHO says "I'm Me?" The mind. To be blunt, it's bullshit. The whole fabricated story of me is pure bullshit: all stories of
“individuals” is actually a fiction. As Shakespeare said, it’s a tale told by an idiot, filled with sound
and fury, signifying … NOTHING.
Look right now! Seeing with naked Awareness, where is any person … unless
you (as a mind-identity) think about it? Thoughts come and go. What you ARE NEVER comes and goes anywhere. It is (You Are)
fully Here Now and Eternally Free and Clear, Eternally Presence, Shining before the mind.
YOU are not a thought, not
a concept, not a feeling, not a time bound entity. You are Awakeness, Aliveness, Presence-Awareness. Just THAT and NOTHING
else. The story of “me” … ANY “me” … is irrelevant. Let's cut through that crap right
now! Okay?
Let's bring this back to the basics: What in YOU never changes? Being-Awareness, just That. That is your
True Nature.
Where is a separate entity when you are in deep dreamless sleep? Or under anesthesia? There is none. Obviously!
But some Presence beats the heart, breathes air in and out, flows the blood, grows new cells and disintegrates other cells,
grows hair and fingernails, ages the body etc etc! Who or what is "doing" all that? Not an "individual," "amazing" or otherwise.
Look
and see that you are present and aware right now. That is the "Eternal," The Natural State; there is no other, no attainment,
no flashy enlightened state, no carrot on a stick. There is NO someday when “you” will “get enlightened.”
It's what you are right now. There is no other than NOW. Wherever you are you are ... Here. That's IT. Big Casino. You already
got it in total and there's nothing more to this Nonduality stuff than that simple seeing, that you ARE. Awareness, Simply
That. Period. Full Stop.
In our meetings, there's just friends, sharing what works to end any suffering and recognize
that you are already free and clear. Really. There’s nothing to get and no one to get it. Drop the belief in “individuality”
and there you are, Present and Alive, the Light of loving being, just that, nothing else. That’s IT.
"The one witness reflects itself in the countless bodies as
‘I am’. As long as the bodies, however subtle, last, the ‘I am’ appears as many. Beyond the body there
is only the One". - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
What IS - is Beyond Reality
All there is is being-existence, uncreated
and empty, yet it sure looks like reality! That is the grand illusion and when the mind is mesmerized by appearances and ignores
it’s essential space-like nature, confusion happens. Yet that too is part of the illusion
and it all kind of dissolves in a sublime so-what-ness and there “you”
are, here and now wherever you go, here, You are as Existingness IS!
"What is being pointed to is your natural being, which is always
present and aware. You cannot understand this via the mind. It is what the mind comes and goes within. It is always present
knowing and illuminating the mind. It is present when the mind is active, and it is present when it is not active. The presence
or absence of the mind makes absolutely no difference to what you are".
"You are aware
of being conscious, correct? Parse that out very carefully. YOU are aware OF being conscious. Therefore, you are that which
is aware of the coming and going of consciousness. That awareness is not a state or experience, however glorious or exalted.
It is the basis and ground of all experiencing. It is that which is prior to the arising of consciousness and prior to any
and all subsequent experiences in consciousness. It is the timeless, spaceless, unborn and uncreated, non-conceptual, non-dual
absolute. You are That". - John Wheeler
"You" do not exist - not as what is assumed
to be "you". Do you assume you are a separate "me-myself" apart form a "world out there"? That is the core misconception.
It is the mistake of a mind that believes in its own separate reality. What you really are is the Eternal Being-Existence.
That is what IS and Beyond Reality. Prove this to the mind that appears as a witness silently watching the
"I" thought and watching the happening of "reading" these words, seeing the space between these words. And now noticing the
Space in which the space appears. Ask the mind, Who Is Watching? You will find no answer. No thing. Where are "you" without a thought? Ask
YOU.
The
thought Who Am I (or What Am I) will erase the false and leave only the Reality beyond apparent me and world.
Use it. Refiuse any other thought, refuse all answers and only bring the mind back to Who Am I? Let that final thought erase
you, and erase itself. Here and Now Being-Existingness IS. This is what You are - Beyond Reality, You Are. Just That, No Thing
being all that appears and not even that.
It was only in the beginning when I was making efforts,
that I was passing through some strange experiences; seeing lights, hearing voices, meeting gods and goddesses and conversing
with them. Once the Guru told me: 'You are the Supreme Reality', I ceased having visions and trances and became very quiet
and simple. I found myself desiring and knowing less and less, until I could say in utter astonishment: 'I know nothing, I
want nothing.'
The ancient and ceaseless search stopped -- l wanted nothing, expected nothing -- accepted nothing as my own. There was no
'me' left to strive for. Even the bare 'I am' faded away. The other thing that I noticed was that I lost all my habitual certainties.
Earlier I was sure of so many things, now I am sure of nothing. But I feel that I have lost nothing by not knowing, because
all my knowledge was false. My not knowing was in itself knowledge of the fact that all knowledge is ignorance, that 'I do
not know' is the only true statement the mind can make. Take the idea 'I was born'. You may take it to be true. It is not.
You were never born, nor will you ever die. It is the idea that was born and shall die, not you. By identifying yourself with
it you became mortal. Just like in a cinema all is light, so does consciousness become the vast world. Look closely, and you
will see that all names and forms are but transitory waves on the ocean of consciousness, that only consciousness can be said
to be, not its transformations.
The Self does not need to be put to rest. It is peace itself, not at peace. Only the mind is restless. All it knows is restlessness,
with its many modes and grades. The pleasant are considered superior and the painful are discounted. What we call progress
is merely a change over from the unpleasant to the pleasant. But changes by themselves cannot bring us to the changeless,
for whatever has a beginning must have an end. The real does not begin; it only reveals itself as beginningless and endless,
all-pervading, all-powerful, immovable prime mover, timelessly changeless.
We had a marvelous meeting on Saturday 05 April. Under
discussion were several pointers that can pierce the false such that it can be SEEN to be false, from Adi Sri Shankaarcharya’s
“Viveka Chudamni” (The Crest Jewel Of Discrimination.)
20. A firm conviction of
the mind to the effect that Brahman is real and the universe unreal, is designated as discrimination (Viveka) between the
Real and the unreal.
84. Whoever seeks to realise
the Self by devoting himself to the nourishment of the body, proceeds to cross a river by catching hold of a crocodile, mistaking
it for a log.
110. Maya can be destroyed
by the realisation of the pure Brahman, the one without a second, just as the mistaken idea of a snake is removed by the discrimination
of the rope.
141. The man of perverted
intellect, having his Self-knowledge swallowed up by the shark of utter ignorance, himself imitates the various states of
the intellect (Buddhi), as that is Its superimposed attribute, and drifts up and down in
this boundless ocean of Samsara which is full of the poison of sense-enjoyment, now sinking, now rising – a miserable
fate indeed!
160. The stupid man thinks
he is the body, the book-learned man identifies himself with the mixture of body and soul, while the sage possessed of realisation
due to discrimination looks upon the eternal Atman as his Self, and thinks, "I am Brahman".
161. O foolish person, cease
to identify thyself with this bundle of skin, flesh, fat, bones and filth, and identify thyself instead with the Absolute
Brahman, the Self of all, and thus attain to supreme Peace.
205. When the unreal ceases
to exist, this very individual soul is definitely realised as the eternal Self. Therefore one must make it a point completely
to remove things like egoism from the eternal Self.
206. This knowledge sheath
(Vijnanamaya Kosha) that we have been speaking of, cannot be the Supreme Self for the following reasons - because it is subject
to change, is insentient, is a limited thing, an object of the senses, and is not constantly present: An unreal thing cannot
indeed be taken for the real Atman.
226. It is this Supreme
Oneness which alone is real, since there is nothing else but the Self. Verily, there remains no other independent entity in
the state of realisation of the highest Truth.
255. That Supreme Brahman
which is beyond the range of all speech, but accessible to the eye of pure illumination; which is pure, the Embodiment of
Knowledge, the beginningless entity – that Brahman art thou, meditate on this in thy mind.
269. Realising thy own Inmost
Self, the Witness of the Buddhi and its modifications, and constantly revolving the positive thought, "I am That", conquer
this identification with the non-Self.
388. The Self is Brahma,
the Self is Vishnu, the Self is Indra, the Self is Shiva; the Self is all this universe. Nothing exists except the Self.
571. Bondage and Liberation
are attributes of the Buddhi which ignorant people falsely superimpose on the Reality, as the covering of the eyes by a cloud
is transferred to the sun. For this Immutable Brahman is Knowledge Absolute, the One without a second and unattached.
572. The idea that bondage
exists, and the idea that it does not, are, with reference to the Reality, both attributes of the Buddhi merely, and never
belong to the Eternal Reality, Brahman.
573. Hence this bondage
and Liberation are created by Maya, and are not in the Atman. How can there be any idea of limitation with regard to the Supreme
Truth, which is without parts, without activity, calm, unimpeachable, taintless, and One without a second, as there can be
none with regard to the infinite sky ?
574. There is neither death
nor birth, neither a bound nor a struggling soul, neither a seeker after Liberation nor a liberated one – this is the
ultimate truth.
580. For those who are afflicted,
in the way of the world, by the burning pain due to the (scorching) sunshine of threefold misery, and who through delusion
wander about in a desert in search of water – for them here is the triumphant message of Shankara pointing out, within
easy reach, the soothing ocean of nectar, Brahman, the One without a second – to lead them on to Liberation.
Questioner: There are very interesting
books written by apparently very competent people, in which the illusoriness of the world is denied (though not its transitoriness).
According to them, there
exists a hierarchy of beings,
from the lowest to the highest; on each level the complexity of the organism enables and reflects the depth, breadth and intensity
of consciousness, without any visible or knowable culmination. One law supreme rules throughout: evolution of forms for the
growth and enrichment of consciousness and manifestation of its infinite potentialities.
Maharaj: This may or may not
be so. Even if it is, it is only so from the mind’s point of view, but In fact the entire universe (mahadakash) exists
only in consciousness (chidakash), while I have my stand in the Absolute (paramakash). In pure being consciousness arises;
in consciousness the world appears and disappears. All there is is me, all there is is mine. Before all beginnings, after
all endings -- I am. All has its being in me, in the ‘I am’, that shines in every living being. Even not-being
is unthinkable without me. Whatever happens, I must be there to witness it.
Q: Why do you deny being to
the world?
M: I do not negate the world.
I see it as appearing in consciousness, which is the totality of the known in the immensity of the unknown.
What begins and ends is mere
appearance. The world can be said to appear, but not to be. The appearance may last very long on some scale of time, and be
very short on another, but ultimately it comes to the same. Whatever is time bound is momentary and has no reality.
Q: Surely, you see the actual
world as it surrounds you. You seem to behave quite normally!
M: That is how it appears to
you. What in your case occupies the entire field of consciousness, is a mere speck in mine. The world lasts, but for a moment.
It is your memory that makes you think that the world continues. Myself, I don't live by memory. I see the world as it is,
a momentary appearance in consciousness.
Q: In your consciousness?
M: All idea of ‘me’
and ‘mine’, even of ‘I am’ is in consciousness.
Q: Is then your ‘absolute
being’ (paramakash) un-consciousness?
M: The idea of un-consciousness
exists in consciousness only.
Q: Then, how do you know you
are in the supreme state?
M: Because I am in it. It is
the only natural state.
Q: Can you describe it?
M: Only by negation, as uncaused,
independent, unrelated, undivided, uncomposed, unshakable, unquestionable, unreachable by effort. Every positive definition
is from memory and, therefore, inapplicable. And yet my state is supremely actual and, therefore, possible, realisable, attainable.
Are you aware? Is there anything wrong with that awareness? This - Empty Awareness arising as Aliveness - is what You
are. This Alive Awareness is not a concept and not an experience. What you are is non-conceptual, always fresh, Presence-Awareness,
paradoxically Empty yet Full. This is the meaning of Advaita: All Is One. Your True Self is Nondual - Not Two. Look at the mind and all
you find is a few thoughts, feelings, and perceptions coming and going in Awareness.
Question: What is this sense of a separate existence? Nisargadatta Maharaj: It is a reflection in a separate
body of the one reality. In this reflection the unlimited and the limited are confused and taken to be the same. To undo this
confusion is the purpose of Yoga. Q: Does not death undo this confusion? M: In death only the body dies. Life does not,
consciousness does not, reality does not. And the life is never so alive as after death. Q: But does one get reborn? M:
What was born must die. Only the unborn is deathless. Find what is it that never sleeps and never wakes, and whose pale reflection
is our sense of 'I'. Q: How am I to go about this finding out? M: How do you go about finding anything? By keeping your
mind and heart in it. Interest there must be and steady remembrance. To remember what needs to be remembered is the secret
of success. You come to it through earnestness. Q: Do you mean to say that mere wanting to find out is enough? Surely,
both qualifications and opportunities are needed. M: These will come with earnestness. What is supremely important is to
be free from contradictions: the goal and the way must not be on different levels; life and light must not quarrel; behaviour
must not betray belief. Call it honesty, integrity, wholeness; you must not go back, undo, uproot, abandon the conquered ground.
Tenacity of purpose and honesty in pursuit will bring you to your goal. Q: Tenacity and honesty are endowments, surely!
Not a trace of them I have. M: All will come as you go on. Take the first step first. All blessings come from within. Turn
within. 'l am' you know. Be with it all the time you can spare, until you revert to it spontaneously. There is no simpler
and easier way.
The seeker Is The
One In Search Of ItSelf.
"Give up all questions except
one: ‘Who am I?’ After all, the only fact you are sure of is that you are. The ‘I am’ is certain.
The ‘I am this’ is not.
Struggle to find out what you
are in reality. To know what you are,
you must first investigate and know what you are not.
Discover all that you are not
-- body, feelings thoughts, time, space, this or that -- nothing, concrete or abstract, which you perceive can be you.
The very act of perceiving shows
that you are not what you perceive". - Sri
Nisargadatta Maharaj
How could a hologram, which is merely an appearance of laser
light that looks solid only because of that light and a bit of holographic film through which that light passes, “know
itself”? The hologram is a reflection of that laser light AND the layers of film of the holographic transparency. Notice
the word appearance. Notice the word transparency. What is the transparency? Another appearance of colors and forms on flat
surfaces.
Hologram
is a word that has its roots in the word for wholeness. Wholeness appearing as NOT wholeness is a hologram in this metaphor.
So:
Can a holographic appearance know its true nature? No. Why? Because it doesn’t HAVE a “true nature.”
Neither
do “you.” Why? Because you do not exist as a solid entity, any more than the hologram is solid and an entity.
What makes a hologram appear solid? Laser light. What makes you appear to be solid? The Light of The One-Without-A-Second,
which IS NOT an appearance, yet appears AS all appearances. In a word? Wholeness.
Can
a thing that appears to be real yet is actually nonexistent know that it is nonexistent??
Can
you know that you do not exist?
What
would there be there to know? Only a dream of words and images, time and form taken to be real but only by itself as a self-reinforcing
false concept.
And
that concept can NEVER know that it is nothing but a concept.
So
why does the seeker always fail to find? Why is it that after 30 years of self-inquiry, yoga, meditation, prayer, fasting,
contemplating, reading, studying, going to satsangs, talking to teachers who are also blind deaf and dumb who pretend to know
etc. there is still NO joy in mudville?
You
cannot find what does not exist! Yet the seeking continues until the seeker dies – either before or at “physical
death” (disintegration of the pattern of energy appearing real like a hologram.)
A
hologram appears to “die” when the laser is turned off. Where did it go? Where did it come from? It was never
real!
The
seeker dies when the energy goes out of the core belief in being a person. But the seeker is only an appearing image like
the hologram so the seeker cannot turn off the light energy giving form to a belief any more than the hologram can turn off
the laser light or destroy the transparencies that appear to give it life.
Now:
If you think that I am saying that there is nothing you can do to end your seeking for wholeness, then the pointless point
has been overlooked. The point is, it is NOT that there is nothing you can do. It is that there IS no you to seek or not seek,
die or not die, be or not be!
We
have said that so long as the belief is still operating as the organizing principle of the apparent life of the person, that
belief can be investigated. And so it does indeed seem to be the case.
But
in the final analysis, can a nonexistent person investigate a nonexistent person? This is where the whole drama sometimes
collapses and there is laughter and tears as it is seen that there never was a separate person.
And
it must be ultimately seen BY NO ONE that a nonexistent entity cannot control the seeing of this nonexistence. Even to say
“it can happen” that the seeker dies belies the fact of the nonexistence of the seeker, AND ignores the silliness
of an idea of any cause of the nonexistent effect!
The
dream continues until the dreamer wakes up. Only then is itpatently obvious
that there never was a dreamer OR a dream. Meanwhile the seeker seeks as a functioning of the Whole Enchilada of Being-Awareness-Lovingness
in its pretense - the false ISness- very convincingly seeming to be an expression of the That Being-Awareness-Lovingness.
But there IS ONLY NOTHING. Like the hologram seems to be an expression of
the Laser but is NOTHING.
From
the beginning not a thing IS. (ONLY Not-A-Thing is.)
NO
escape, no way out. Of what? There IS no prisoner, and no prison. "Life is but a dream".
A: Well, it's not a matter of taking up a new theory, but
there is a conceptual structure at play here making you think you are separate and walled off. Without this structure in the
mix, there would be no presumption or experience of separation. Let me ask—to you right now, what is the difference
between you and me?
Q: You're sitting over there, and I'm right here.
A: And this couldn't make any sense unless you thought of
yourself, as well as me, as bodies with awareness inside them. The great Advaitin, Krishna Menon, said, "What we take ourselves
to be is what we seem to see." If you take yourself to be a body, then the world seems to be made up of physical objects.
If you take yourself to be a mind, then the world seems to be made of subtle essences including minds. And if you take yourself
to be awareness, then the world is experienced as nothing but awareness.
Q: But I know I'm not the body. The body changes over time,
and I am what watches it, and I have remained unchanged.
A: Yet you feel like you are "inside" the body?
Q: Yes, I can see things only from this angle. If I were
not inside this body, I would be able to travel anywhere, and see anything from any angle.
A: Do you feel like you are in any specific location inside
the body?
Q: Umm, let me see....
A: Do you feel that you are above the waist or below the
waist?
Q: Above, definitely.
A: Okay, do you feel you are above the neck or below the
neck?
Q: Above the neck.
A: Okay, above the nose or below?
Q: Above.
A: Can you narrow it down any more?
Q: I feel like I am behind the eyes.
A: How big are you? What shape?
Q: Oh, about an inch wide, maybe round.
A: Behind the forehead? On the left, right, or in the center?
Q: I feel like I'm in the center behind the eyes.
A: How far back from the eyes?
Q: Oh, about an inch.
A: Okay, we've found you!! A marble-sized ball about an inch
behind the center of the forehead!
Q: I guess so (smiling).
A: Now, what is it that this marble appears to?
Q: What?
A: Well, as we talk about this, does the little marble seem
to appear as an image?
Q: Yes it does!
A: So if this image is appearing, what is it appearing to?
That is, it doesn't seem like the marble is doing the seeing; it seems like the marble is being seen.
Q: Yes, I understand. The little marble isn't the seer, it
is being seen. I guess it's just an idea I have of myself.
A: Yes, based on a few habitual things, such as the prominence
of the visual sense over hearing, taste and smell. It’s also based on the association that arises over time between
thinking of one's self and the subtle muscular contractions in the forehead region. It makes us think that this is where we
are.
But
now think of the marble image, and that which is aware of the marble image. If you had to place your true self on one side
or the other, would you be on the side that is seeing? Or the side that is being seen?
Q: The seeing side, definitely. I feel that I'm looking at
this marble. So how can I be over there inside the marble?
A: Okay, the seeing of the marble; think about this seeing.
As the seeing arises, does the seeing have a location?
Q: No, it isn't experienced as being in a location. I can
say it must be in the brain, but that's just an idea. The experience itself doesn't have any location at all. Aha!
A: That's it! Nothing else has a location either. And that
awareness in which experience arises is your Self. It is the non-separate Self of all.

Are you aware? Is there anything wrong with that awareness? Look for the Source of Awareness. Seek within the Space
of your very BEING for the Source of that "I" that thinks and believes it can see, grasp and posess this Absolute Sourceless
Nothingness. Seek for the Source of that Sourceless Source. What is the Source of "I AM"? LOOK. Seeing with Naked Awareness,
see if there IS a Source that you can find in This Presence of Naked Awareness. What is the Source of Being, Knowing, I Am?
What is this that is, before there is the Being Now Looking?
Jnana
Yoga (Yoga of knowledge) is the discipline of philosophical discrimination between the real and the unreal by which Jnana
or the knowledge of Brahman (the Supreme Reality) is attained. This discrimination springs from the intuitive conviction that
the eternal and unchanging Brahman alone is real, and all other objects are transitory and unreal.
The
Mahavakya or the Great Sentence of the Sama Veda is Tat Tvam Asi – THAT
(Brahman Only) Thou Art.
Om
Tat Sat. _____________________________________________________________
7-9. D.: Maya cannot but have a cause. Just as clay cannot
become a pot without the agency of a potter so also the Power all along remaining unmanifest in Brahman can manifest only
with Isvara’s [God’s]will.
M.: In dissolution there remains only the non-dual Brahman and no Isvara.
Clearly there cannot be His will. When it is said that in dissolution all are withdrawn from manifestation and remain unmanifest,
it means that the jivas, all the universe, and Isvara have all become unmanifest. The unmanifest Isvara cannot
exercise His will. What happens is this: just as the dormant power of sleep displays itself as dream, so also the dormant
power of Maya displays itself as this plurality, consisting of Isvara, His will, the universe and the jivas. Isvara
is thus the product of Maya and He cannot be the origin of His origin. Maya therefore has no antecedent cause. In dissolution
there remains only Pure Being devoid of will, and admitting of no change. In creation Maya hitherto remaining unmanifest in
this Pure Being, shines forth as the mind. By the play of mind, plurality appears as Isvara, the worlds and the jivas,
like magic. Maya manifest is creation, and Maya unmanifest is dissolution. Thus of its own accord, Maya appears or withdraws
itself and has thus no beginning. Therefore we say there was no antecedent cause for it.
10-11. D.: What is its nature?
M.: It is inexpressible. Because its existence is later invalidated,
it is not real; because it is factually experienced, it is not unreal; nor can it be a mixture of the two opposites the real
and the unreal. Therefore the wise say that it is indescribable (anirvachaniya).
D.: Now what is real and what is unreal?
M.: That which is the substratum
of Maya, Pure Being or Brahman, admitting of no duality, is real. The illusory phenomenon, consisting of names and forms,
and called the universe, is unreal.

is so clear and lucid that IF the "seeker" looks back to the Space-Like Awareness from where these pointers arise there can
be profound insight and a fresh perspective. Ultimately it is nearly indispensable to meet with one who has fully understood
and imbibed what is pointed out, who can guide the seeker to his or her own "Final Understanding" and the ultimate liberation
from the false and revelation of the ever-present Reality. Happily that happened for this appearance in meetings with John
Wheeler and 'Sailor' Bob Adamson, and in chats by phone with Tony Parsons. Huge Gratitude!
While The Self (True Being)
is NOT in ANY book, this one is assuredly of great value in the apparent process of the apparent seeker apparently seeking.
This text, as well as Vasishta’s
Yoga which this book draws from, is very highly recommended.

Stillness Of Mind is STILL The
Mind and This Is NOT What's Pointed To
Bhagavan
Sri Ramana Maharshi narrated the following story to illustrate the distinction between manolaya (stillness of mind) and manonasa (destruction of mind).
A YOGI WAS doing penance (tapas)
for a number of years on the banks of the Ganges. When he had attained a high degree of concentration, he believed that to
remain in that state for prolonged periods constituted salvation and therefore continued practising it. One day, before going
into samadhi (a state of deep concentration), he felt thirsty and asked his disciple to bring some water for drinking
from the Ganges; but before the disciple could return with the water, he had gone into samadhi, and he remained in
that state for countless years. When he woke up from this experience, the first thing he did was to say, “water! water!”;
but there was neither his disciple nor the Ganges in sight. The first thing which he asked for was water because, before going
into deep concentration, the topmost thought in his mind was about water; by concentration, however deep and prolonged it
might have been, he had only been able to lull his thoughts temporarily; therefore when he revived consciousness this topmost
thought flew up with all the speed and force of a flood breaking through the dykes. If this was the case with regard to a
thought which took shape immediately before he sat for meditation, there is no doubt that other thoughts which had taken deeper
root earlier would still remain unannihilated. If annihilation of thoughts is salvation, can he be said to have attained salvation?
The moral is that one should not be taken away by the spell of temporary stillness but pursue the enquiry till the last vasana
[remnants of habitual thoughts of an I]is eradicated.
The
main mistake I see in the expression many share when there is an exhortation to “do some practice pr sadhana”
is the false assumption that there IS "someone" who can meditate, contemplate etc ... can repeat mantras like so-hum,
can focus on "I am", and so on ... this is a false belief in "an entity that can become whole someday." It's ignorance (ignoring
Awareness which is never absent) and taking oneself to be a thing that can discover no thing! Patently that is impossible!
Who does not see that?
These ideas can only reinforce the beliefs
in separation, time, and location. The matrix of ignorance. The story of the seeker is one told by an idiot signifying
nothing!
What
IS is complete and whole and needs no "sadhana." All sadhanas are practices in ignorance. Yet they do happen as a functioning
of The Whole.
I paraphrase Nisargadatta in saying that
sadhana is done until the mind finally realizes that sadhana does not work! Then it gives up. But (and this is crucial to
the Final Understanding) THERE IS NO PERSON, NO ENTITY, THAT CAN MAKE THAT OR ANYTHING ELSE HAPPEN.
This identity - "me" - IS ONLY AN IDEA - a thought - yet it persists –
and eventually brings pain or suffering - when it’s held deeply as a fixation that this idea IS what I am. That's been
happening from around the age of three. When that "I" is born at that age, then all our suffering and pain branches out from
that root idea.
All suffering, pain, identification - and an entire universe of the living dream
(or nightmare!) of "an individual, bound-up person" arises from that birth of "me." All the vast matrix of identifications
arise from that - so when that is seen to be ONLY an idea in consciousness itself, that signals the onset of Self Realization.
In my view now, all appearances - the universe itself - is a pattern of thought - that has been cast into a seemingly solid
matrix - and once that core begins to be examined it begins to crumble like a solid looking cloud begins to crumble when the
breeze arises (in the same space as the cloud - interestingly!) and the whole matrix ultimately collapses - leaving nothing-but-the-Self.
Which was already always the only Reality.
Then if any pain, suffering, fixation on a "personal entity" or identifications
of "me and mine" - "I and other" - continue to plague the person - there are many methods for dealing with that so that it
is no longer troublesome. Asking Who Am I? until there is no one left to ask is a time-honored method.
"Charlie hits an OM run! I really love this book. The author writes forcefully
with a level of spiritual clarity that’s only possible from someone with direct experience.Using
quotes, dialogue and a lot of humor, Charlie relentlessly exposes how the mind gets caught up in the illusion of separation. This book is very readable, accessible and makes a significant contribution to non-dual literature.Highly
recommended."
-Chuck Hillig, Author of Enlightenment for Beginners, Looking for God, Seeing the Whole in One, Seeds for the Soul
and The Way IT Is.
Here is a question for YOU: If you
are seeking …. What are you seeking for? What is it that you don’t have right now that you want to attain? Awakening?
Enlightenment? Self-Realization? Liberation? What ARE these things? Are they “things” at all?
Perhaps the habit is to identify your
self as the thought "I" - as in I Am. Notice right now if the Presence behind the I thought has been overlooked. Break into
the habit, being aware of That Presence as your True Identity. This takes no time nor practice. It's just a natural seeing
... right here, right now. And that's the end of seeking; the Natural, Eternal Stateless Being has been found to be never
missing.
Here’s another, harder question
for you: What IS enlightenment? What IS awakening? Liberation? Realization? Do you know what these words mean? What the concepts,
these words-sounds, are pointing to? Are the concepts describing some actual attainable object? Some “thing” that
“you” can “attain?”
Honestly now? Do you REALLY know?
Or do you only think you know? Is it really clear or are you only believing a story told by some so-called “awakened,
enlightened, liberated or self-realized ‘person’!?” Or is it some hearsay, something you read in some “spiritual
book” by some “sage”, or some “holy scripture” (which are just records of dead words from dead
people recorded as the interpretation of OTHER dead people?)
How foolish is THAT!?
Look: I am not attacking YOU. These
words are to poke with a sharp pointer at the balloon of concepts (filled often with hot air!) … let’s poke a
bit at the “culture” of “spirituality” … because that set of cultural beliefs (cultural = cult)
can keep the sincere seeker on the hamster wheel of endless suffering and offers no authentic, lasting peace.
There simply is NO such “thing”
(key word, thing) as awakening, enlightenment, liberation, or self-realization. These are concepts, ideas, stories; that is
all. And a concept will never satisfy your longing for your true nature. The menu ain't the meal!
That’s bad news if you’re
a seeker.
“What!!??” I hear you
blurt out. “I am suffering here. Are you telling me that my suffering must be endured because there is no enlightenment
and liberation from this endless seeking and suffering?”
No. The notion that suffering must
be endured is truly crap.
Now for the good news. The really
cool good news is that what you actually ARE is are already awake, already liberated, already self-realized, already enlightenment
itself.
There is peace, joy, freedom, wholeness.
But that is not a personal state of affairs. What we call "the person" is just a false belief in a separate individual called
“myself”, or “I”, or “me”. Let’s have a look beyond words: Are you aware that you
are present and seeing these words? And the spaces between the words? Aren’t you clearly presently aware that you exist?
You are? That awareness is itself endless, beginningless, peaceful, silent and open, like the sky.
That Awareness Itself is the natural,
eternal state of total freedom … simply, naked being-awareness.
Notice that. That is what is being
pointed to with all the fancy words. Drop the words and see that YOU - this naked awareness – IS. THIS is the beginningless
and endless True Peace that the seeker yearns for, shining before the mind’s stories of “me” and “liberation”
and “someday.”
This Awareness is always here right
now wherever you go. It may have been overlooked as the mind focused on attaining something that was missing, something to
solve a problem for a person. But the actual fact is, YOU are Awareness ... and That is never missing. That is a space-like
knowing that the mind translates into the words “I AM.”
This Awareness is the peace that surpasses
understanding; the natural state of serene open seeingness itself, devoid of identification as this or that thing. This Awareness
IS Awake, liberated, realized. This Awakeness IS enlightenment itself. It ain't personal. It just IS. It is NOT an attainment.
It very simply already always IS. Full Stop.
You are this. There is nothing more
to seek. In fact any seeking can only seemingly obscure that, yet ultimately it is impossible to hide from what you are, since
you ARE the awareness that sees these words appearing before the eyes.
Awareness IS. Prior to, during, and
after everything appearing, all stories, experiences, knowing, not knowing, etc … that Awareness sees all that is happening.
Everything happens in awareness and You Are That. Search Over.
You are always aware, always aware
of something, whatever is appearing before your eyes and ears; whether that appearance is painful or pleasurable, happy or
sad. Hearing, seeing, knowing … all these arise in awareness. Awareness sees, hears. It’s the essence of everything
and never missing ever.
That is what you are. So you ARE the
liberation, realization, awakeness; you ARE freedom itself. Just see right now that the label, the word, is not the actuality.
Freedom is NOT a word. NOT a concept. NOT an experience. Freedom IS and you are that.
You (in Truth) are SILENCE ... Awareness
Itself. Already free and peaceful. So if that is what you were seeking you can stop now, because you already have it. See
this right now for yourself. If you believe that you are anything other than awareness itself, who believes that? Challenge
the assumption that you are a thing apart from that ever-present naked awareness.
You are NOT a concept, NOT a belief
or a believer, NOT a thing apart from Awareness. You are what you seek. See it now. You are already the enlightenment, the
peace, that you have been looking for. That is all there is to “awakening” or “liberation” Seeing
that what you are is naked awareness and what you are not is a thing apart from That.
Awareness is always present. It's
not present yesterday or tomorrow, or even today. It's always only here now. YOU, as timeless, spaceless awareness that's
always seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling, is what YOU are.
All concepts and experiences that
come and go in Awareness are totally irrelevant. Nothing that comes and goes can ever touch the Perfect Peace that YOU are...
Just notice, "I am present and aware,
right here right now." That's all there is to it. Game Over:
An anonomyous "advanced spiritual seeker" writes, There's running around like crazy --LOUD
mental stories of essentials missing, this life not 'right' yet for this character and of course, the character "me" itself
being the biggest story, around which the rest depends --who is having a very tough time-looking to circumstances to change
for the solution, instead of seeing through the character herself--it just isn't happening!!! Words are read, audios
listened to, they're almost becoming just 'sounds', there's such familiarity but...
The story is all about "but." You
are the 'but' of the cosmic joke. You will NEVER get this. There is freedom ... but NOT for "you."
The phantom (me) feels deeply
embedded in the core still--thus the pain of doing my life all 'wrong', being without a partner (oh horrors according to the
conditioning) or a meaningful career--ALL of which is seen in surrounding characters--so the 'what's wrong with ME'???? story
plays and plays and plays like a broken record--and it just plain hurts. I don't want another year of this bs—
That is what is happening ... Being IS This ... Everything, Happening.
And, THERE IS NO WAY OUT. That goes on (seemingly, it's actually a dream-story) until is doesn’t. Trying to get out
keeps the suffering happening. But there is nothing that "you" can do to "escape..." not because you are powerless ... but
because THERE IS NO YOU. The Phantom does not exist yet so long as there is that belief in a separate "me" there will be suffering
and that is what is... all there is is what is, Being ... EVERYTHING Who would be able to escape from EVERYTHING? The appearing
phantom that suffers and wants out is Being ... No Thing happening as a "thing-apart-from-everything" and even THAT is Being
Appearing as That. EVERYTHING IS THAT. There is absolutely NO WAY OUT.
There is watching all of this--but the level of discomfort is indicative
of some underlying belief in 'me' and not knowing how to shed this--realizing that "i" can shed the 'i". shit.
I gather you mean “I”
can NOT “shed the I.” That is absolutely correct. Essentially you are completely screwed. NO escape. REALLY! There
is NO WAY OUT! The mind
bullshits itself into believing it is watching. That's more of the same! That "shedding this" will never happen. Of course
"you" don't know how. "You" are a FAKE. How can a phantom dispel itself!? "You" are dreaming and "you" will NEVER wake up.
Letting all that "my life" business may happen and "you" won't do it. That little you does NOT exist... The "I" is a concept
appearing in Being-Awareness. That is only a pointer to Infinite Being, the Real You. The little you is a ghost-like appearance
that is ignorantly and arrogantly taken to be "me-myself-I." So is the "witness!" The pointer regarding "witnessing consciousness"
CAN be and often IS a misleading one because there IS NO such "thing" as either "consciousness" or a "Watcher" or even "watching"
apart from Being-Awareness. THIS "I" appearance IS Aliveness, Being, Being That. ONE IS NOT TWO.
THIS is Nothing Being Everything.Don't overlook
that word that points to WHAT IS: Everything. YOU are NO Thing Being Every Thing. Before Time, God, Watching, Being, Knowing, Not Knowing,
or any other dream IS, YOU ARE. Being is all there and not even THAT! Nothing being Everything. Bottom line is, This IS IT. This -- as it is -- is ALL there
is. NO WAY OUT.
Q: I've just been told about you, this morning. I have read Sailor Bob Adamson, Tony Parson, Ramana, Nisargadatta and
very recently Jean Klein.
That’s VERY good company you are keeping! You’ll hear nothing really different here than what they
are pointing you to look at and the essence of the Message is that YOU ARE what you seek. Just noticing that is a fundamental
starting point in this.
My stumbling block is on Enlightenment. Since we have to use words to exchange, with their limited conceptual interpretation,
I will use the word "State".
There is NO “state of enlightenment.” “States” are experiences in awareness that come and go.
The classic example is of the “sage” who asked for a bowl of rice to be brought to him. Then while waiting he
meditated and entered a “state of samadhi” (so-called transcendental union or oneness) … then he came out
a week later, in an empty room, and looked around and shouted, where’s my rice? That state passed as all states must.
What is it about "you” that NEVER changes? Look at that one.
What we call enlightenment here is the simple seeing that only what never changes … your inescapable Being-Awareness-Aliveness
… is Real. ALL that comes and goes is a dream-like appearance arising out of nowhere in the Absolute Being-Prior-To-Awareness
… and That is the ONLY unchanging Reality … the so-called Eternal State. This all appears in YOU, as Being-Awareness
holds all that is like an infinite unbounded “bowl.” (The use of the word “state” here is poetic.
It is really more accurate poetically pointed to as “The Stateless State.” Words divide the whole, but only apparently!)
You are dreaming that you are awake, dreaming that you are asleep, dreaming that you are dreaming. All three “relative”
states of Consciousness are dream states arising, as already said, IN or ON the Absolute Unknowing Being that you truly are.
The “idea of you” appears in THAT … the Timeless Spaceless Unborn Absolute You… words seem
to make That an object known by a subject so do recognize that all words only point to That which is ultimately totally BEYOND
describing or representation and CANNOT be grasped! In short do NOT believe or accept a word of this or any other pointer
as some “truth.”
I understand what you and the others are saying.
WHO understands? Where IS this “understander?” This is NOT a matter of mentally comprehending. When a false
“you” listens as “an individual” hearing another false “individual” say this stuff, the
message is completely missed! All you will read or hear here and from the others you mention is I AM speaking to I AM.
The ONE I Am of Being Itself.
But I am looking for that state where the illusion, the dream is "really" seen through. The state that Robert Adams,
Bernadette Roberts, Jean Klein, Ramana etc. experienced.
Again: There is NO permanent “state” to be “experienced.” What is being pointed to is as stated
many times NOT an “experience!” That cannot be stresses too strongly. NOT an experience. YOU are NOT a concept
NOR are you an “experience." You are NO THING and until that is fully understood there is no end of seeking states and
blissful experiences and all that crap! It is, to be straight about it, a bullshit story, a myth.
See, I have the knowledge that you are talking about
This is the mental comprehension and that is the booby prize. You must go a LOT deeper. This “having knowledge”
or “owning the concepts of knowledge” is superficial and cannot dispel suffering. WHO says “I know?”
Where is the "me" that asserts, “I have it?” What is it that wants a “state” that this false “I”
can own?
Where IS this I, this "self-centered entity" called you or me, with a name, and desires, who wants, and wants, and
wants ... always wanting what is not already always here?
… but then this doesn't come with the state of these individuals, of Buddha...In Tibetan Dzogchen, they give
the example of the clouds obscuring the sun. The clouds being the obscuration of the mind, the ego.
That is a POINTER. But this obscuration is UNREAL. We make it real then try to dispel it! That is tail chasing!
They give many, numerous methods, techniques, mantras etc...etc. to enable one to reach this state. They called
this state "Rigpa".
All that is in my view a corruption of the simplicity of this. The word Dzogchen translates as “The Great Perfection.”
Then that is defined as “Ever-Fresh, Self-Shining, Non-Conceptual, Presence-Awareness, Just That and nothing Else.”
THAT is ALL!
Notice that the ego is taken to be a “fact” where it is only an assumption of a belief in something unreal.
This so-called “ego” is a fantasy, and that is NOT real to begin with! Then all manner of practices are “prescribed”
to annihilate this fantasy of a false ego. But since the practices assume the fact of an ego and thereby only reinforce the
illusion, how could they take the ego beyond itself? It’s a totally false assumption, a faulty premise, operating unnoticed
in the background of all that story of practices leading to perfection “someday!”
Where IS this ego? Can you find one anywhere? (See chapters 4 and 5.) Apart from a simple one-letter thought …
“I” … which is merely a cloud-like appearance assumed in ignorance to be a thing apart from the whole, there
is NO ego, and NO separation, only an IDEA of such. Can an idea, a thought, separate itself from the aliveness, awareness,
in which it arises? And what is at work here that is driving the appearing thoughts of “me and the universe?”
Where is a me apart from that infinite Energy that drives totality to appear as manifestation and seeming (ONLY seeming!)
separate objects and separate pseudo subjects? Subject/Object … “I/Other” … IS the core delusion.
The ego is then dissolved, what Ramana experienced as the death of the ego.
Actually that’s a descriptive kind of “poetry.” But it’s absolutely NOT “the truth.”
How can a non-thing that never really existed in the first place die or be dissolved? It might feel like dying when identification
is strong due to force of habit. But it is still false! No matter how “real” it “feels.”
It seems to appear as fading or dyong in the waking dream as a seeker’s sense of separation fades … either
gradually or suddenly. But when the premise or assumption driving the question or statement is wrong the answer or conclusion
will also be wrong: If there is no such thing as a separate “person” how could that nonentity die?
Does just "abiding in this "knowledge" lead to the "blissful" fully Realized state?
Abide as what you ARE … No Thing. That is already “bliss.” Empty Loving Spacelike Being. The personal
“you” was never born! That Absolute Being-Awareness-Aliveness IS all there is. All there is IS all there IS ...You
in Reality are already fully Realized.
You are Nothing … appearing Nowhere … and Everywhere … as … Everything. There is NO path, NO
goal, no knowledge, nothing to get and no-one to get it. Full Stop.
Don't Be Lazy To Invesitgate
H.M. Writes, Do you know, it's really frustrating to hear you and others speak words of truth; to be reminded of
a very dear friend who said much the same 20 odd years ago and still to be sat here holding onto the belief that I am what
I am not and to know there is not a damn thing "I" can do about it.
That's not actually true. What that "you" CAN do is LOOK into this story of "me" with a direct challenge to the assumption
that there "Is a Me" and That Thought of I is what I am. That assumption is false as you can easily prove by actually looking
into the space with a couple of simple questions. But first, can you NOT be? You ARE and THAT is inescapable. Start from that
certitude.
Then if suffering or frustration is there, for whom? Where is the "self center" - the "me" - that keeps reasserting
that "I hold onto that belief in a separate entity?" Ask YOU, WHO AM I? Where is this "me?" You look and see in
the immediacy that there is only a temporary thought that is not always there and is completely gone in deep sleep wherein
the body is lived by Being-Awareness-Aliveness just fine!
Do NOT be lazy to investigate and root out that core false assumption! Read the other correspondence on my site, and
stay with I AM … Being-Aliveness … and let THAT show you the infinity of Love and the emptiness of the Self. You
were never born. Being The Unborn is Freedom and You Are THAT. Do not refuse that and do not pretend to be a little separate
thing apart from That.
While it is “ultimately true” that there IS no “you,” as long as there is that appearing belief,
investigation can (and usually MUST) happen.
No two snowflakes are exactly alike, every single one is unique, yet all of them are
made of the same essence ... water. Similarly, no two bodymind organisms are exactly alike; even "identical" twins are in
subtle ways uniquely from each other, yet ALL are made of the same essence ... no thing. That which is the essence of all
that is, is utterly Indescribable and Unimaginable. The happening of This is Being ... being Nothing Being Everything. This
is Absolute and unknowable ... "You" ... and All that is ... ARE This.
It is NOT that there is "nothing to be done." There is NO-ONE. Then all "doing" happens
as always, with no do-er and no effort of thought or emotion... This no-desire no-fear is YOU as What-You-Really-Are and ALL
the rest starting from "me" is a dream-like appearance on the Screen of Presence-Awareness and THAT THOU ART... NothingEverything.
Given THAT ... what there is in so-called "life" is... ACT as if "you" have free will.
Act as if you have control knowing full well that all ideas of a "me" with control or free will are the dream of Being Itself.
Acting as if you have
free will is simple... "you" have been doing that your whole life. Knowing yourself as Presence-Awareness and even before
That the Absolute is NOT a belief and is NOT a "personal matter." As long as there is a seeming person let that person act
in its own self-interest... just do what is next as if you can decide or do...
Who Is This "me?" No-one Every-where and that is the Real.
A.W. Writes, I am confused.
On the one hand I hear from various nonduality teachers (including yourself) that I have to investigate, to self-enquire,
to ask who am I until there is no one left to ask. Yet I also hear others (and you) say that there is NO person. So who would
enquire? Who would there be asking who am I if there IS no one? This is utterly and terribly confusing to me as I read all
these contradictions and opposing positions taken up by so many internet gurus who propose all these techniques and tools
for self realisation and at the same damn time tell me there is no such thing as a person from the start. How is a sincere
searcher after the truth to reconcile all these differences and find the way home? I am disgusted with all of it at this point!
And kindly do not respond with “who wants to know”? I am up to here with this soporific (and bloody well ridiculous)
solipsism and these philosophically bankrupt tautologies. How do you answer these charges, Charles?
Where the mind finds “contradiction”
the Empty Self sees “paradox” – an “apparently contradictory statement that nevertheless may
be true”. There is an old Zen saying, that the two “guardians at the gate to truth” are confusion and paradox.
What IS “confusion”? One dictionary says, “Impaired orientation with respect to time, place, or person;
a disturbed mental state”. I love that last one! The disturbance, in my experience, has to do with the inability of
the mind to grasp the timeless spaceless Self, the simplicity of Space-Like Existence (prior to existing) of the reality prior
to knowing. In other words, it’s the mind’s resistance to NOT knowing the unknowable Isness of The Self that arises
as confusion, a disturbed mental state.
Look: Arguing one strongly
held position against another strongly held position leads to exactly the frustration and confusion (and, I sense, an underlying
anger) that you are sharing in this message.
Why do you feel so opposed
to someone asking you “Who is asking the question”? Rather than just “go off’ look at what it IS that
resists, and gets itself up in arms against, such well-intentioned challenges to your beliefs and opinions? In my view it
comes down to simply one issue: Do you really want freedom, happiness and authentic peace? Or are you more interested in arguments
that have nothing to do with that? As long as you fight yourself inside you will find lots of projected imaginary opponents
outside yourself to debate. But the debate cannot lead where you really want to go – the home you never left.
When and if you are willing
to settle down with one expression with which (or whom) you resonate “Heart to Heart”, write again. But so long
as all you’ve got is some articulate languaging skills but no respect and trust for the pointers and those who share
them, kindly keep that to yourself. In other words, get real or don’t waste your time or the time of those you write
these kinds of messages to.
Without investigation into
the imaginary person (paradoxically, by that self same imaginary person) nothing will change or transform. You will remain
as a sleepwalker through the bramble bushes of a dreamed life until the body dies, at which time there will be the self-realization
you yearn for. Meanwhile I can share with you that freedom from suffering is available right now. But only with some trust
and a willingness to abandon being right and proving points and fighting a fight you can never win.
Good luck. I love who You are.
When the sages said stay with I AM and abandon all questions except “Who Am I”?, why fight with the simplicity
of that? Who fights? Look for the Source of One Who Argues, One Who Desires to be Right. Who is driven by a need to win arguments?
What is the source of a “frustrated angry judgmental me”?
Despite your pejorative interpretation,
the real final question thyat arises here IS “Who wants to know? Who asks these questions? Who argues and
wants to be right? WHO!?”
Seek the Source of Source and
give up all questions. Abide as I AM and nothing else. I Am confused? Strike the follow-on to I AM - 'confused'! I AM. That
is where to STOP. Again, good luck! Love, I AM appearing as Charlie to I AM appearing as A.W.
“If you wish to know the truth, then hold to no opinions for or against
anything. To set up what you like against what you dislike
is the disease of the mind”. – The Third Zen Patriarch, Seng T’san
Ponder:
Existence Is. Where Is The
Source Of That?
Seeking The Source of Being-I-Am,
look for the One who Seeks that Source? Who or what drives the seeking of Source? Where is the Source of Source?
Existence IS and Knows Itself
as the Consciousness 'I AM'. You are already what you are seeking! You ARE, and this, Being-Existence, is simply inescapable.
Existence IS and "knows itself" as Consciousness, expressing in thought as I AM. But the thought "I am" is not the actual
I AM of Naked Awareness. Where is any actual person - without a thought story? The self-center, "identity," is imaginary,
a mental fabrication. All the troubles of the person disappear in sleep and only re-appear if there is consciousness, "I Am",
in the "waking" or "dream" states.
Don't Miss The Elegant Simplicity
Of This.
Something sees these letters
and sees the forms called words, and that same ever-present something sees the space between the letters and the words, the
screen of the computer that allows these to appear, and the space in which computer, body, knower, and seer, appear.
What IS That? STOP. LOOK.
NOTICE.
That Space of Being Awareness
effortlessly holds and allows it all to be. As it is. No resistance. Eternally Presencing Reality. Did you overlook all these
spaces and the Space-Awareness that allows it all to appear? Right here and now are you overlooking the Being-Presence that
allows the seeing of the body? The observing of the I thought that appears? What is seeing? Being sees and sees the appearance
of a self, reading. That Being is what You are. It takes NO time or effort to BE. This, Being-Eternally-existing, is what
you are. Don't believe the voice in your head that tells you that you are a thing that can suffer and die. Being as you are
means abandoning all identities once and forever. You are That - Being, and nothing else. Ponder: "Just keep in mind the feeling
"I am," merge in it, till your mind and feeling become one. By repeated attempts you will stumble on the right balance of
attention and affection and your mind will be firmly established in the thought-feeling 'I am' ." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj;
'I Am That', Ch. 16
As the absence of a separate
entity is seen directly, you can no longer really believe that you are separate from Existence-Consciousness-Freedom. You
were never separate; that was merely a false assumption which crumbles and dissolves in your True Being, when directly and
continously challenged.
Find a teacher
you trust to guide you in this. There are many on my links page, explore until that feeling of yes is present (as it was for me immediately when I met the words of John Wheeler on line,
and was fortunate to have him accept me as a friend and student and guide me back to the home we never really left. I wish
you the very best on this endeavor!
When the absence of a separate entity
is seen directly,
there is revealed the Natural State:
Living Freedom.
Right here where you are.
Right now.
Here is a question to ponder: If
freedom is not
a “thing” - than what IS it?
Nothing Special. Just This - Ordinary
Awareness, Space-
Like, the Infinite Field of All
Possibility. That Thou
Art.
That and Nothing Else, appearing
here now as Everything.

GS Claims, I Am It All – (Except for YOU?)
First GS Writes, It
is ALL in the phenomena, the appearance.........no one there to change anything. It is ALL ONE essence 'out of which' everything
'appears' - all differentiation is only in the appearance.........and nothing can get between the un-manifest and the manifest
in order to change something............. I AM IT ALL............. Who is upset? about what? The 'mind' is nothing but
reflections upon the living waters............ Some drops of rain imagine that they remain a sacred separate individuals..........gurus
and teachers............. that membrane of separations is made of water....and it is only surface tension that gives that
sense of individuality.........the missionaries had what they called compassion and love.....but what they brought was more
like interference - many native cultures appear to be far more worse off because of Christian do gooders......but it is all
in the appearance......... Everything moves upon emptiness.................. I am that............that everything and that
emptiness.....Not two. Warm waves of nothing to you.....- G
There
was no response. Simply, nothing came up to say. Certainly there was nothing said that was disagreed with here!
But
then (perhaps because he was ignored?) This missile arrived:
Charlie,
(Your arshole-ness) - The one who imagines he is awake and then attacks others about their anger has a problem........ The
warning about John is not more necessary than the warning about Charlie......... Charlie's biggest fan is Charlie. It is not
all about you Charlie........who cares? Best read some of your own pointers dear one. Buying into the drama is a sign of non
clarity.......
LOL!
GS, You assert facts not in evidence. WHO thinks "charlie buys into the drama?" Who is there buying into the drama of buying
into? It’s pure projection! Come on, G. You can't have it both ways. Either it is ALL The One Self appearing as
ALL of it, or there is an ego claiming imaginary problems. If there is a problem whose is it? Mirror mirror..... DUH. It seems
that when you are saying I AM IT ALL you are excluding some imagined person "over here" that is NOT part of this I AM
IT ALL that you claim you are. Ego is as ego does, G. ALL means--
Well --ALL!
And
ALL THIS TOO Is ALL I AM/YOU ARE/NOT TWO.
Here is Only Love, From I AM (A.K.A. ALL) to I AM (A.K.A. ALL). Don’t
miss the cosmically amusing irony, dear boy.
And as to all this from an
imagined entity to another imagined entity? Nobody asked you! J.B. DID ask here, was looking, then what happened happened;
all to no-one of course! - and yet J.B. is in a seeming process of dialoging here. And there are breakthroughs for him
(read the correspondence with him.)
Not so you, GS! Nobody asked
for your cherished opinions dear boy. No-one REALLY cares what "you" think. Hell, I don't even give a shit what "I" think!
PS: "If you can take it, take it and be. If not, cheer up, go about other people's
business, and do or undo unto them till you drop"! - ee cummings
On 03 April J.B. wrote a
request: Do you know of anything that's out on the web (or elsewhere) that has some biographical information on Sailor
Bob? I've seen a bit here and there about how he's a former alcoholic, a onetime sailor, and that at one time ran a New
Age business. Have you run into anything else—I'm writing a book and would like to find out a bit more, if
that info is available.
The response: It was nice
to be with you here. Has the suffering ended? If not let's talk. If so welcome to the Home You Never Left. :-) Re Bob's background
for your book, you can write Bob and ask if he cares to say more about that, and also Gilbert Schultz who knows Bob very well.
John Wheeler also may be able to provide additional info. Addresses are in CC field. The only thing I know other than what
you say is how he got the nickname. He was as you know in AA and there were lots of "Bobs" and AA eschews last names for te
sake of anonymity. So, because he had been a merchant seaman (I heard tell), that's he got the nickname 'Sailor' Bob, to distinguish
him from other Bobs like 'Baker' Bob or 'Plumber' Bob, and it stuck. Love ya, Charlie
Then he received what I found
to be a wonderfully joking e-mail from one of those mentioned. His response? He telephoned me and proceeded to dump his angry
ignorant arrogance. I listened silently. Then I observed that as I was witnessing, the organism here erupted and laid into
this arsehole in a ruthless compassion that directly “attacked” the ego-mind of J.B. It was almost like Nisargadatta
took this bodymind over and laid down the law to the ignoramus at the other end of the phone.
After a minute or so the
eruption finished. There was a long silence, then a click of his hanging up. I laughed, went and got coffee, and after a few
minutes of enjoying my DVR of Formula One Motorsports qualifying from Bahrain, I wrote this e-mail:
Your phone call was completely
inappropriate.
Your egoic disrespect for
the pointers and the generous support of those who ONLY care about seeing your suffering end, and ask nothing of you except
that you open up and listen, until you can be respectful and listen, shut the hell up. You are acting out of an idiot mind
that is both ignorant and arrogant. That's a very bad combination.
I do NOT tolerate fools like
you. Your behavior is absolutely unacceptable. You were borderline when you came here, but received the benefit of the doubt.
It appears now you pretended to listen whilst running your own agenda. Enough. NO MORE.
You got the fire of ruthless
compassion on the phone. Use it to wake the bleep up! If you have an issue with my friend’s joking with you, why did
you not take that up with him?
I only gave you courtesy
and respect, which you repaid with vitriolic anger and completely erroneous judgment. Your anger is a problem and you might
want to get some medication or take an anger management course. I will NOT tolerate your bullshit. I trust I made that perfectly
clear in the clearest and loudest way possible! Your assholeness is unwelcome here. Until you are ready to LISTEN and stop
your bullshit stop writing or calling. There is ruthless Love here for you and I hope that the ego-you does die soon!
Sincerely, I AM
Some time later the video
camera leapt into my hand and said talk to me about this. So I did.
Finally JB responded with
this. Yes, no question about it. I'm an asshole. And I regret having vented my anger on you.
The response: Go BAKE in
I AM.
Follow-up today from J.B.
- I wrote you and said I was an asshole. That conviction remains. I regret what I said. I want to apologize for venting
the garbage in my head. No excuse for that. I am sorry.
Apology accepted.
Meanwhile I'm going to
shut the hell up, hibernate, ask who the hell it is that needs to be so rageful (and reactive), and keep going to
the I am, if that's what happens. Even though I'll do stuff or take some steps, whether I remain an asshole or not is
out of my hands; whatever unfolds will unfold.
Correct.
From what has occurred,
the me I sometimes take myself to be is sad, shaken—neurotic. Yet when I turn to the oneness there's peace and
calm— no me, no worries. As you know, I of course don't turn to the oneness; It turns to itself.
To stop and look is a good
plan. Don't believe that there is no you and that you have no control. While that is certainly true, to believe that is to
completely corrupt the pointers. Advaita is NOT about some new, better, “holier” beliefs! Challenge that believer:
“Who believes I am a believer, who believes ‘I know’ – anything”!?? Drop ALL identities, "nice
guy" or "asshole" are all false! Drop all questions except "who am I"? - and know that the only accurate answer is "not
that not that".
Drop all thoughts that follow
I Am and come back to I AM only. As Nisargadatta points out: "Realisation is but the opposite of ignorance. To take the world
as real and one’s self as unreal is ignorance. The cause of sorrow. To know the self as the only reality and all else
as temporal and transient is freedom, peace and joy. It is all very simple. Instead of seeing things as imagined, learn to
see them as they are. It is like cleansing a mirror. The same mirror that shows you the world as it is, will also show you
your own face. The thought 'I am' is the polishing cloth. Use it." Let there be waking up out of the nightmare.
What You actually are is not a thing or label or any thought or feeling that mind can grab onto. Discover
this for yourself: Stay with I AM, the Inescapable Unimaginable Silent Sourceless Source of all that appears and disappears
in Timeless Spaceless Being. Love, I AM.
The moment I am becomes a thing, rather than a pointer to empty
awareness, the I am is a fake.
The false guru is one who seems
to himself or herself to know The Natural Self, the True Nature, and subtly claims that as a thing attained by the person
and then offered to other persons. This expression on my website can be terribly misleading when the interpretation is that
this natural knowing is something I have and can give to you. That is false. The paradigm … one of separateness, me
and other, you and me as individuals, is patently false.
To meet an expression as it arises
from a John Greven, a John Wheeler, a Bob Adamson, a Tony Parsons, is to begin to drive this point home to the seeking ego,
and also to the fake-guru knower-ego, that what is pointed to is unattainable, unknowable, and always already right here right
now as the Presence of Awareness, and there is simply no way out of that.
Let us come back to the
simplest expressions: “Does exist. Cannot be expressed.” – David Carse. And, “Stay with that
[Presence-Awareness] which lovingly allows for everything to appear in peace that cannot be disturbed. Allow it to show you
the depth of its emptiness and the fullness of its void.” – John Greven.
Being a fake means pretending to be something I am not –
a person, an individual apart from others, and somehow special and unique. Being real is being Presence-Awareness and nothing
else. Dropping the false, if and when it happens, unconceals the ever-present reality behind, before, between and within the
words and spaces appearing on the screen here, there and everywhere.
In the poetry of Zen Patriarch Seng Ts’an:
Words! The great way is beyond language! In it there is no yesterday, no tomorrow, no today.
Full stop.
Notice
that there is always awareness, wherever you are. That clear empty awareness registers all thoughts and feelings ... yet remains free and untouchable. BE The One Changeless Choiceless Being. THAT is what You are. That's Easy! You already ARE That.
There's
NO WAY
OUT. Yay!
"If
you want moksha [self-Liberation], write, read
and practise
the instructions
in Ellam Ondre." - Sri
Where is the separate entity called me which
assumes itself as real and apart from the Whole, and therefore worries, "what will happen to ME if this or that calamity occurs?"
To whom would it matter!? ... in other words, WHAT I, what entity? The suggestion is to challenge that assumption, yet the
assumed I, the ego-idea, ignores the challenge and tries to figure out the un-figure-out-able!
Just see right now that all speculation of a future is based on an imaginary character
that when looked for is NOT there at all. This
I or me thought: WHAT does it refer to? Nothing, and That is Impersonal Self-Cognizing Emptiness, arising as Aliveness, Intelligence-Energy.
Just THAT and nothing else. Come back to the basics: I AM. That is certain. WHAT am I? NO ANSWER.
Abide in NOT Knowing! YOU are empty and meaningless and THAT is Love without a lover. No subject lover no object loved. ONLY
Love and THAT is the Gift of Unknowing. Know this now: What you ARE is LOVE, NOT a
LOVER. Love is impersonal Reality; the lover is an illusion. Love Is All.
It’s not about answers; it’s about questions.
This will be a different message that what usually bubbles out
of nowhere and shows up here. It happens by itself. And I love what it says. So here it is. Take it and be or leave it and
be. Either way you'll BE.
When sages like Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
proposed questioning the assumptions we have lived from since an early age, they are not suggesting that there is a “final
answer”.
The solution to the dilemma of human life, a life wherein we
seem to be unable to truly love without judgment, unconditionally and lastingly, and be truly committed to, and able to carry
out a commitment to, permanently ending warfare, will produce mass hysteria or mass apathy. Look around you.
Taking care of all of us has become seen as a pipe dream inspiring
politicians to attack those who attempt to open a world of possibility with nasty rhetoric like “that’s a fairy
tale, give me a break” or “Oh, get real.” Strangely some of those were at one time championing that same
open space of possibility and vision that they now attack.
This is most instructive for those with an interest in spiritual
freedom.
What is missing? That is a popular question amongst seekers,
who feel they know that something is missing, something is off about themselves and the world, something is just not quite
right or maybe, very very wrong. With us, humanity, with them, humanity, with that, the world.
This is rampaging cynicism and never was it more self-evident
than in the Internet age. Huge communities like YouTube, the Blogging community, and multiple TV news channels with 24/7 exposure
of the human ego self that is expressing vociferously jow, showing the content of human minds and hearts, provides a uniquely
21st century insight into the matrix of human thought, the hitherto unseen context that humanity is being used
by.
In a world ruled by a self-centered me matrix there is no place
for a context of we. All of us takes a back seat to the ego-sense of one of us called I and to hell with everyone else. We
don’t believe this. We don’t think this. We in the deepest sense ARE this, when we are that we are the ego. Do
unto others and get away is the mantra of humanity. Ask Martin. Ask Jack. Ask Barack.
Enter Advaita and the traditions of nondual, mystical spirituality.
To ask new (or ancient but overlooked) questions and refuse the pat answers of the ego: Could this be a solution to what ails
humanity?
Asking, who are we as a people, as humanity? What drives us?
Can we get down and real and see that what drives human thinking and feeling simply does not work for our own best interest
and in fact is destroying life little by little? Can we really get down to, and root out, the causes of human cruelty, apathy,
and an obsolete fight-flight mechanism that seems to be running this show we call life?
I would love to say that the jury is out. But the case has not
yet come to trial! So long as the real dilemma facing the human race is not being confronted -who am I? – what is my Source? – where am I going? IS there a separate I that must attack and defend to
survive? IS the body what I am? Is that a true identification of what I and my fellow earthlings are? True freedom, absolute
freedom, is not cheap.
Unless many many more are encouraged to ask ourselves the unanswerable
questions and share the insight into Source that arises with others, and fast, so long as these questions are not popular,
well then, I suspect that as the Chinese proverb states, we shall never transform the space that drives humanity and we shall
end up where we are headed.
Who cares? We should. Will we?
Have a cookie, Neo?

One-Without-A-Second
Talks on The Gift of Unknowing
Returning to The Home You Never Left
A visitor to the meetings here writes, "It wasn't
an awareness of absolutely not being the body, or in it, as it was so dramatically in the previous week. But I'll take
this. Fear and suffering have all but disappeared."
And THAT is the pointless point of all this! The end of suffering.
Fancy Shmancy exepriences are a kind of booby prize ... momentary experiences of oneness or detachment are not what
is being pointed to, as you now know!
Welcome back to the Home you Never Left! Any little pockets of residual
suffering die a natural death as once you have severed the root cause, the effects cannot remain. They burn away by themselves.
The thought "who am I?" in response to any remains of the self-center will quickly toast any remnants!
And NOW (always NOW) we can declare from nowhere to no one,
Donations are gratefully accepted; even a couple of bucks
helps with site expenses and phone costs... just use the
